Whew! And a question...
One thing crossed off my list so far - movers. I called and booked them today, and because we aren't moving any furniture, they are ridiculously CHEAP
So, now, I'm taking my father to Macy's this week to pick out his bedroom and living room furniture. The question is, can we realistically expect to be able to have all his furniture delivered on October 1st? What if we only pick furniture that's in stock?
That's the only way this will work, otherwise, we're back to Ikea, which I really don't want to do.

Re: Whew! And a question...
I ordered a sofa from Macy's 7 years ago and it took 8 weeks.
Not sure if you looked into it but Crate & Barrel not only has a lot of their merchandise in stock (meaning, less than a week lead time) they also have a flat $69 shipping charge. So whether you have one item or a truck load, the shipping charge is only $69. Thought that was pretty awesome.
Good luck....

Re: Whew! And a question...
Our bed was delivered immediately, but the sofa and furniture took months from Macy's...
ETA: We were told the sofa was not in stock in that particular Macy's but it was in another one on Long Island...And they said it would tentatively take 1-2 weeks to schedule delivery. It then kept getting pushed back due to a variety of excuses..

Re: Whew! And a question...
I'm assuming as long as you purchase items in stock it shouldn't take months, and that they can let you know in the store when you are looking which items are and are not in stock. Anyone know anything about it?

Re: Whew! And a question...
JC Penney has a lot of mass produced but sturdy furniture in stock. We got our couch from there and it came very fast. You may want to check them out.

Re: Whew! And a question...
are you dead set on using Macy's? there are plenty of furniture places that will deliver by Oct 1st if you feel like shopping around.

Raymour & flannigan has 3 day delivery and they will also keep the furniture in their warehouse for as long as you need them to.

Re: Whew! And a question...
I know that Bob's discount has most of their furniture in stock and the prices are very good. I know they are in NY, NJ and CT. Not sure about PA, but if they are you should check them out. Also Big Lots has furniture and it is all in stock, if you have a Big Lots by you.

They have been holding my bedroom furniture while we wait for our bedroom to be finished.

we did the same thing....we didn't move for two months after we bought the furniture and they kept it, but it was available days after we purchased.

Re: Whew! And a question...
AWESOME advice everyone - THANK YOU! I would have gone to Macy's and wasted my time.
Instead, I'm going to take my Dad to Raymour and Flanigan - it's literally 5 miles from our house anyway, so it's much more convenient.
THANK YOU!!

Re: Whew! And a question...
The bed is most important, but a mattress & standard metal frame can be delivered very quickly.
You may want to get that seperately, ( froma mattress store) just to be on the safe side.
ETA-I just read your last post. I didn't know that about R & F. They have a great selection of couches, too.
