Re: Which extra-curriculars do your kids participate in?

For September we will have gymnastics, soccer and a once a month Sunday school. DS will be in Kindergarten. We'll change it up after activities end. I may add one but I'm up in the air about it.

I'm a big believer in not overloading w/ extra-curriculars. I'm dreading DS having three for a while.

Both K- every activity is once a week
DD- piano, swimming (til late Oct)

DS- piano, swimming (til late Oct), soccer

That's why I am so up in the air about adding one. There are so many things I want to expose him to but I see what he does with his free play time and I do not want him to lose that. That's where he really figures things out, IMHO.

I was very glad to find a class to expose him to our religion but only have it be once a month during Kindergarten.

IMO you don't need anymore! He is only 5 and yes that free play is VERY important. There will be plenty of time to expose him to other stuff.

All of our stuff is Friday evening/Sat/Sun. I refuse to sign them up for anything after I pick them up at 5:30. If I was home at 3 pm with them everyday it would be different. We need to eat as a family, they take a shower, unwind, play with each other or alone, spend time with me, help clean up after dinner, and get to bed a decent hour. This is assuming their HW is completed in after-school.

2nd grader:
- swimming, only until late Fall and then not again until Spring
- art class
- sunday school

4th grader
- swimming, only until late Fall and then not again until Spring
- dance
- sunday school

Which extra-curriculars do your kids participate in?

DD is older - going into 8th grade, but since 1st grade she has done religion one night and dance another. She took 2 dance classes (45 min each) from 1st - 4th grade and then 3 from 5th on. In 4th and 5th grade she tried cheerleading which was one game per weekend from sept-nov.

DS will be in first grade. His fall activities will be soccer on Saturdays and then he will do some after school activities at the center where I teach dance, I just haven't decided which ones yet.

Re: Which extra-curriculars do your kids participate in?

DS will be in Kindergarten and he will have swimming classes through December one day a week after school. On Sunday morning he will have religion but it is more for socialization as he will be in a new school, and the religion class is where he went to preschool so he will still see some of the same kids.

DD will be 3 this fall, she has preschool 3 days a week, swim class and gymnastics.

I think that having free time is important. I want my son to adjust to kindergarten before we schedule any other activities. I would like to start my kids with ice skating classes in January.

Re: Which extra-curriculars do your kids participate in?

My 6 yr old will be doing flag football and religion once a week each.

My 5 yr old will be doing religion and looking into some sort of dance or gymnastics.

My 3 yr old will be doing religion.

I do not want to be overwhelmed trying to get multiple kids to multiple activities at different times and days.

DS - 3rd grade. Will do Chess Nuts, Lego Club, Band (learning an instrument) and Mad Science if they offer it again. None of the clubs are all year, just once a week for a certain period of time. He also does baseball in the spring on Saturdays.

DD - 1st grade. Soccer in both fall and spring, once a weekend. She will be doing one or two clubs through school too, but not sure which ones, probably Book Club and Art Guild.

Travel soccer (fall and spring)
Wrestling (winter)

2nd grader

Religion
Travel football (fall)
Wrestling (winter )
Soccer (spring)

They both used to play football AND soccer in the fall and they did karate year round, but it got to be too much for me (they loved being active lol I was the wimp) and I made them each choose 1 sport per season.

I may add different activities as seasons end...find something else when soccer is over, etc. DS will definitely take swimming lessons in the Spring but he may not be in the other activities. I'll see what he likes in the Fall.

DD is starting K. We decided on two activities max, for time and money reasons. She's going to dance once a week (tap followed by tumbling) and then she'll take a class at the arts council.

For the Fall:

DS#1 - 2nd grade
Religion
Boy Scouts
Pal's soccer
Travel Soccer

DS#2 - K
Just PAL's soccer for the fall

Sprintime we add baseball and soccer. Over the winter we do basketball and/or tennis. Over the summer, we tried out karate but won't be continuing.

DS is going into kindergarten
-Starting in September he is doing swim lessons 1x a week (for the whole school year unless he doesnt want to anymore at some point).
-Starting in the late fall/early winter he will have basketball on sat
-In the spring he will do baseball on saturdays
I was going to also do soccer on saturdays for the fall, but my DH wanted him to get acclimated to kindergarten for a couple months and didn't want alot of activities at first.

Re: Which extra-curriculars do your kids participate in?

DD 1st grade:
Religion
Daisy troop (every other week)
Baton
Maybe swimming (she is asking for it)
Gymnastics

It sounds like a lot, but she really needs to be kept busy. I might wait to see what the homework situation is like before I decide on the swimming.

Re: Which extra-curriculars do your kids participate in?

Robbie is 11 and going into 6th grade.
In school (in addition to regular work) he does SEED, Mathletes, regular chorus, select chorus and Band.

Outside of school he does Baseball and takes sax lessons.

Noah is 9 and going into 4th grade. He has NOOOOOO extra curricular activities. He used to play lacrosse, but lost interest. He did pottery lessons too, but the class was not available this year. He now wants to play tennis so we will be signing him up for Autumn sessions.

I kind of let them tell me what they are interested in. When they don't ask for something, I present them with a variety of ideas and programs in our budget and let them decide. Normally they'd rather spend time going to bike ride or hike with us.

My one big caveat is only one time consuming activity per season. I don't want them to be overestended.. but I also don't want to be driving from pillar to post either. Maybe that makes me lazy or whatever, but it works for us.
