Which swing should I buy?

I'm going to buy one online from BRU
because I have gift cards...and the one near me is very limited of what it has in the store

It's my first baby, my few requests after reading some reviews is that entertaining, and hopefully doesn't use batteries, but instead plugs in

Any suggestions? Thanks! Chat Icon

I think the only one I saw that plugged in was the Fisher Price Papasan Swing, like Palebride suggested above.

Re: Which swing should I buy?

if they still make it, i would suggest mine: the graco swing in birkshire- it is a combo swing and bouncy seat.

Fisher Price Papasan Swing

I agree! Mine was battery operated and it really didn't go through batteries TOO fast and we used it everyday!!

Re: Which swing should I buy?

So I'm thinking between the fisher price Aquarium One (can plug in)

Papasan One (can't plug in)

Rainforest one (I think can plug in)

They all seem to get decent reviews on BRU, just wondering if anyone here has one or the other or has heard good/bad things about them

Also, how long are swings used for? 5-6months? Less? And when you're done do you pack them away for baby #2?

Re: Which swing should I buy?

I Chat Icon love my Graco Sweetpeace. It plugs in and the best part of it is that the seat removes and you can put in the Graco infanct seat. Came in very handy when DD fell asleep in the car and we didn't want to wake her. We would put the infant seat into the sweatpeace and she would stay asleep.

We could also plug in our MP3 or phone and play music for her. It also has womb sounds, classical music

We retired it when she turned 1 year. She was still using it for naps but we wanted to move those naps to her crib.

Re: Which swing should I buy?

I wanted to avoid batteries too.... in the end, we got the fisher price power plus swing (standard/upright seat).

A cousin gave me a battery operated papasan.

let's just put it this way, the power plus was retired at 4 months, and the much beloved papasan is still in VERY regular use at 8.5 months. (we're only on our 3rd set of batteries)

DS only started using swings at roughly 2 months.

Definitely get a swing with a papasan-style seat.

It seems like there's only one neutral papasan swing, the lamb one? Because I'm not finding out the sex of baby

Also, I thought swings could be used right away? I was hoping to get at least 5 months use from it, seems like a waste to pay over $100 for like 2 months use, right?

we have the original (tan) papasan... You may also be able to find that one, although it might be discontinued.

Many babies take to the swing right away.... Some never like it much.

But moms of those who do would pay $500+ for a papasan.... anything to give you a precious extra hour of sleep Chat Icon and like I said, DS has been using it daily for over 6 months.....

LOL @ paying over $500 for sleep Chat Icon I'm in for a shock I'm sure

Yeah I don't see it in the tan, so I'm thinking the little lamb one...the other two papasan's are pink and we don't know the sex

Thanks Chat Icon

papasan cradle

I could imagine that one being great for a newborn, but if the seat can't be shifted to a more upright position (like the traditional papasan), I bet a baby would become impatient with being forced to stare at the ceiling at 4+ months of age.... at 8 months, DS likes to chill in his swing and look at what we're doing.....

Re: Which swing should I buy?

The Raionforest swing plugs in. My sons still go in it and they are almost 7 months. They weigh 20 and 17 lbs respectively. The swing has a max of 22 lbs. I wish it was higher so my suggestion would be one that plugs in and has a high weight limit

Re: Which swing should I buy?

I love our Graco Sweet Peace, BUT, it has no entertainment. I also LOVE that our Graco Snug Ride can click into it-- so, if she is still sleeping from when we come back in, I can put her on the swing without disturbing her, OR settle her down in the swing to prep for going out. It's great for a newborn, and still good for chilling out/naps at 4 months old. Wish it had a separate toy bar attachment though.
