Which theme for party?
For DH's Surprise party...
He used to play poker alot w/ his buddies, but due to work, he can't.
He also always wants our annual BBQs to be Hawaiian Luau/ Tiki themed.

I voted casino...since I did something similar for DH. I threw him a Texas Hold'em party. And he loved it.
Whoever wanted to play payed $25 pp. We ended up with about 40 ppl and a very nice money pot!

Casino sounds fun.
Maybe if you have enough wives/GF they can dress as dealers or tasteful show girls. Or you can make it a gangster casino theme.
You know you can rent tables too.

Casino night is so much fun especially at a party... gives people things to do , especially when not everyone knows eachother, playing games is a great icebreaker and also a memorable expierence for close friends either way you win

I think if you plan on hosting the party at your house, a luau would be easier to pull off than a casino theme. Also, Labor Day is the end of summer, so it would be nice to end it with a tropical-themed party. If you're going to rent a space, however, and your DH is into poker, then go with the casino theme. The pics from that other party looked great - I'm sure he'd enjoy himself!

I threw DH a suprise 30th and we did a casino theme it was sooooo much fun!! I had a company come in with tables and dealers, they made fake money with DH's picture on it, and at the end of the night they tallied everyone's chips up and we gave out gift baskets!! Dortoni's also made an amazing poker chip cake for me!! Definitely do a casino friends/family are still talking about it!!
ETA I did it in my backyard under a tent..we had 5 different casino tables in total!
