Re: Which would you prefer with regards to you FIRST home purchase?

Without question, I would do it on my own without DH. I would not give DH power of attorney & let him do it on his own. I think he tends to overlook too many things. I was annoyed enough when he said not to worry about the money the seller owed us for something that was supposed to be finished prior to closing.

i went into contract without DH and i was prepared to close without him too!

DH didn't even see the house until after the contracts were signed!

I definately would want my FH with me...Incase I miss something or they try to get over on me...

Plus it hink it's a great thing to be able to share the purchase of your 1st home together....It's a milestone.

While I think it's a great milestone to share together, if it meant problems at work for him, I would most definitely do it on my own. Our closing was under an hour...that's not worth the risk of him losing his job or opportunities at work.

It's really just sitting in a room with lawyers and signing your name 500 times. I'd wait to go to the home for the first time after it officially becomes ours until he was with me.

Keeping, and looking good at your job would hold precedence for me.

Depending on how long he has been working there, and how secure his job is, I'd try to make it to the closing. I see it as one of those really important milestones in life.

I agree.

Re: Which would you prefer with regards to you FIRST home purchase?

can you push the close back?? I mean-- it's a little ridiculous and I would think that he should be there for the closing-- however, some companies are just not sensitive to people's lives outside of work.

I mean- it really depends how important the DH or whoever's business trip is. If he recognizes the importance- he should go. If his bosse's are just being arses-- then screw it and go to the closing.
