I've heard mixed things on eating white albacore tuna fish in a can.. what have some of your doctors or friends said about having a tuna sandwich? Thanks!

Re: white albacore tuna fish
My doctor told me to eat it in moderation...I tried to limit to once every two weeks, though in the end its all I wanted to eat! With this pregnancy, I'll try to limit again...

Re: white albacore tuna fish
I only want food when I am told I should have them - thus my bologna issue. I have been wanting tuna lately also, but I havent had any yet this pregnancy - never was a huge tuna fan to begin with.

Re: white albacore tuna fish
Every doctor is different. Mine doesn’t care just in moderation. So I made up my own rules, half portions of the so called ‘no-no’ items and restricted to once a week.
I use this website as a rule most of the time..
American Pregnancy.com
I had a small tuna sandwich last month.. but I had a half tuna steak about 2 weeks after as well *shrug*
ETA: from their site:
LOWER MERCURY Eat no more than six 6-oz servings per month
Carp Mahi Mahi Crab (dungeness) Snapper Crab (blue) Herring Crab (snow) Monkfish Perch (freshwater) Skate Cod* Tuna (canned, chunk light) Tuna (fresh Pacific albacore)

Re: white albacore tuna fish
i don't like fish so this isn't really an issue for me, but tuna once a week isn't bad (as per my dr).
i don't aviod any foods except sushi, alcohol, and unpasteurized cheeses. everything in moderation is the best way to stop yourself from going crazy, IMO.

Re: white albacore tuna fish
I've had tuna once so far...I love tuna, so giving it up has been hard, its all I want to eat right now. But every once and a while should be ok.

Re: white albacore tuna fish
I had tuna probably 5-6 times during my pregnancy. My dr was fine with it.

Re: white albacore tuna fish
my doctor told me to limit tuna, and only eat the chunk light tuna because it comes from smaller fish. the white albacore comes from larger, older fish that have more mercury in them.
