Honestly, since 9/11 I think concept of "safe" went out the window for most of us. We gained back a small, false sense of safe as the years go on, but the truth is, we aren't. I try not to live my life in fear, but between the boston marathon bombing, shootings that have occurred, I just don't ever feel settled. It's a sad reality today :(

I've run the bridge most mornings in the last 3 years anywhere from 4:45 to 6:30 am and NEVER saw any security on the walkway....never...it always unsettled me that it was just left open with no real agents in sight. usually i would only see the police car with lights on but no one in it.

I watch too many movies bc my first thought after hearing about the lights and the group of 5 people is someone paid off the security or it was someone who works there.
That is what I have been thinking too. Either someone that works there or someone who knows someone who works there. Very creepy either way.
No, it was not someone who worked there. My husband actually works on the bridge at night (and was last night) but currently they are working under the bridge. He heard it like everyone else, from the news. There is not private security, just NYPD stationed at each end of the bridge. Not the top of the line security the media keeps talking about.
I also want to add, there is no check points for workers on the bridge. He does not have to show ID like you do at Port Authority construction sites (i.e. World Trade Center).
See this is scary!! I hope they change the rules then. They should have to show and ID.
