I've heard that a lot of nurses do believe it based on their work in hospitals!

I believe it. My friend had her baby on the full moon back in October. I have another friend that is in labor now and her baby should be here very shortly!

Re: who believes in the full moon theory about water breaking because of gravitational pull??
I don't know about the delivery theory (haven't heard much about it before) but I do know that I used lunaception (using the light of the full moon + sleeping in complete darkness all of the other time) to regulate my ovulation because my cycles were so screwy (40 plus days sometimes). Every person that I told this to thought I was nuts, but I concieved the first month we were trying so I'm not gonna knock it.

My mom is an L and D nurse and she says it's the waxing and waning of the moon rather than the full moon. So that would make sense with the theory that it can happen the few days before and after the full moon.

Re: who believes in the full moon theory about water breaking because of gravitational pull??
when I delivered my first it was a full moon and there were 46 babies in the nursery. The nurses said it happened all the time with a full moon.

Re: who believes in the full moon theory about water breaking because of gravitational pull??
Yep. Both my boys were born early on the full moon.
As a matter of fact, I predicted my second son's birthday shortly after I got my BFP. I predicted he would be born on March 10 or 11 because of the full moon (his original due date was March 23). My water broke on the morning of the 10th and he was born that afternoon!

Re: who believes in the full moon theory about water breaking because of gravitational pull??
my grandmother swore by this... i have no firsthand knowledge but i wouldn't be surprised if it were true...
(going to check out the calendar right now for full moons around my due date )
ETA: my first birth was nowhere near the full moon. BUT it was the day after a new moon
this time around there is no full moon in the vicinity of my due date, but again there is a new moon 2 days before my due date.
i wonder if new moons have any effect?

Re: who believes in the full moon theory about water breaking because of gravitational pull??
The nurses in both L&D and the nursery will tell you that it is definitely busier around the time of the full moon...
At least according to the ones at LIJ, Huntington, & St Catherines...
It's a favorite topic of mine..so I always ask.

My water never broke but I had both my kids when the Moon was full! One 4 days late, the other 1 day late.
L&D was packed both times!

Re: who believes in the full moon theory about water breaking because of gravitational pull??
I just have to tell you, it must be true! I went into labor around midnight on the 9th, which was a full moon & I cannot even tell you how crazy it was in L&D that morning! I didn't have a real room until 5pm after getting there around 9!
