Allisons god mother bought the dress which i knew was tradition.She also bought a cross. Then i see the god father and he says i am buying the cross. my dh wants her only wear the cross his broher is buyign and not tehone my friend bought.IO aslke dmy friend who buys it traditionally b/c i said teh god father is buyign it to.She said teh god mother my dh swears its teh god fathera nd doesnt wants his brother to find out she has two crosses. The godmaother will obviously be insulted if she doenst wears hers as well and she wants to get it blessed. What do i do?

Traditionally, GM buys the outfit, GF buys the cross. I wouldn't want to hurt either persons feelings, so I would probably put the two crosses on her.

Yep the Godmother buys the outfit and the Godfather gets the cross but I don't see anything wrong with the baby wearing both and that way nobody's feelings gets hurt.

In fact this same thing happened to Anna when she baptized her youngest. She ended up putting both crosses on.

In my family our outfit is a family heirloom which has been worn by many of us. Usually the godmother buys the cross but often they buy it together!

DH and I are my nephews godparents so at least we know we have to buy both, so we dont run into any hurt feelings.

The Godmother (my sister) got Julia her cross, I feel it doesn't matter who gets it.

In our situation the Godmother was 16, Godfather was 31.

We have my husband's christening suit and my family's gown. My husband was a premie so his was too small and I felt wierd putting my son in the gown. We decided that my brother would buy a suit and a cross for my son's room and my SIL purchased a cross, shoes, and bib.

We knew that if my SIL was told to purchase an outfit then it would really be my MIL purchasing it so we felt since down the line my family's gown will be wore by my brother's children then he also can use the suit he purchased for my son for his son's.

The GodFather could purchase a cross for the baby's room to be bless during the ceremony.

godfather normally purchases the cross.

Since we used family gown for Molly her godmother purchased the cross, but she asked me first. The godfather purchased Molly a beautiful bible.

I would ask the godfather to purchase the baby an additional piece of jewerly. I don't think it needs to be so black and white.

I bought my Godson the cross, his Godfather got him a Christ's head which wasn't really appropriate soooooo......
BTW, I also bought him his outfit.

I didnt know my SIL purchased a cross until the christening but she did buy his outfit. I knew my cousin was buying the cross. Well DS wore 2 cross' on his christening. It actually worked out because the one my SIL bought was shorter and the other one was longer and he could wear it when he got older. If you do not want to do that I would ask her to get your DD a braclet.

ETA: No one asked why he was wearing 2 cross'

I was just the godmother for my nephew and I bought his outfit and the godfather bought the cross..There is really no set rule but this is the way we did it!
