Re: Who does and does not have a tag

Maverick has a collar and tags on at all times and he is going to get chipped when he gets neutered but he will keep the tags on.

When I was little my dog ran away. He was found and the person contacted us from the tags. If a person who finds your dog is smart enough to take it to a vet or shelter that is the only time the chip works.

I would keep tags on JMO

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

we don't have tags for Char.

she has a chip and we registered it.

i usually leave her "naked" unless we go out and then sometimes i put a shirt on her, a coach collar but that is really more for looks or something like that. she doesn't use a regular collar for a leash - we have a "no pull" collar that goes around her body instead.

hmm - do i have to do both or is the registered chip enough? Chat Icon

i feel like if, god forbid, she gets out somehow and someone gets her and wants to find her owners - they will by taking her to a shelter, vet and they will check for the chip and BOOM there's our info. same as if they want to keep her b/c they like her and she is friendly - they will regardless of if the info is right there or underneath her skin. that is what worries me. My concern with just having the chip is, what if someone who does not own a pet and does not know about chips finds her, will they know to bring her to a vet to check for one? I don't think so and then I am sh*t out of luck :(

I think I am putting the tags on her ASAP!

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

Dozer wears his nametag with address & is micro-chipped.
When he stayed at my MIL's house we made a tag with that address.

One time we were at my MIL & there was a dog running around loose so of course I had to get him. When I read the tag it was a CT # & address but nothing local. We left a message & then I started knocking on doors. It turned out to be one of the neighbors daughters dog. She was visiting.

Casey always wears her collar and name tag.

My 2 cats - one wears a collar with the bell bc he escapes sometimes and I have to put his name tag on, keep forgetting...he always returns tho Chat Icon Chat Icon

The other one stays indoors and my DH took his collar off recently..it was bothering his neck and he doesnt really need it anyway.

Simba is chipped and always has his collar with his tags on. He gets terrible anxiety if his collar is removed even for 1 minute.

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

We got tags for our cat and dog about a month ago. They wear them all the time.
I did this after finding a stray dog on a busy main road with no tags or chip.
I also found my cat in the dead of winter. She had no tags or chip either. she's a purebred so she was definately not a regular stray.
No one claimed either of them. The dog was adopted at Brookhaven shelter within a week of getting there. And the cat has a wonderful home with us.
Who knows what would have happened to them if I had not saved them Chat Icon

I don't want this happening to ANY of my babies. I will also be getting them chipped soon (i used to be against this, but not anymore).

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

we have a choker and a leather collar-the leather collar has the tags on it the choker does not. She is micro chipped and tattoed-we only put the choker on her when we take her out unless we are taking her in the car or for a long walk-then its the leather collar

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

my dog used to wear his collar with tag all the time, but he doesn't anymore and its funny because if i put a collar on him and then take it off he gets mad and wants it back on, he'll go sniffing and look for it
also when i walk him i use a harness because he has a little head and has wriggled his head out of his collar while being walked when he wants to go in the opposite direction

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

my cats are indoor only cats

however- I have some concerns for when we buy a house

Maggie LOVES to run out the door when I open it- which is fine b/c it's only the hallway

but soon it will be to the outside world and we are adding at least 1 if not 2 dogs (I want to keep it even- and Jake wants a Lab- which will be about 50lbs more then Pokey- my persian- so I want to have a dog in the middle of them about 30-35lbs- so it will be 7lb, 15lb, 30lb and then the lab)

Maggie might have to start wearing a collar - the vet wanted to chip her- do people do that for cats???

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

my cat has neither. She is strictly an indoor cat, and the 2 times she decided to be a wiseazz and run out the back door, she got so scared, she froze 2 feet away from the door.

Needless to say, she's never tried it since!

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

Cooper almost always has his collar on, inside and out. He doesn't wear it to bed and he does't wear it when we leave him alone in the the house. I guess the main reason we have it on him in the house is that if he's up to no good, we can hear his tags jingling together and run over to make him stop whatever he's doing (usually mauling a pillow).

Re: Who does and does not have a tag

Our dogs wear collars with tags ALL the time and they're both chipped.

God forbid they were to ever get out I would rather know anyone could look at the tag on their collars and figure out where to bring them.
