Who is familiar with Florida??
If DH is working in Miami (at the airport), what are some nice, not too expensive, areas to live in?? Good schools, nice neighborhood, etc. I guess it can be up to an hour away in any direction.
Thanks!

Cooper City. My cousin lives there and loves it.

Re: Who is familiar with Florida??
Cooper City (I went to high school there), Plantation, Davie, Weston, parts of Hollywood. I would definitely stay North of Miami.
I grew up in South Florida so feel free to send me any questions you may have.

Great! Thank you.
We're in the pro/con phase of moving so I wanted to look at some rental and housing prices. It will be a huge pro if I can be a SAHM. DH's friend is telling him we can get a great house for under $150 but I'm not seeing that. His friend has no kids so he may not have bought in where we would be looking since schools wouldn't be important to him.

I really don't think you're going to get anything for under 150k in a good neighborhood. That seems pretty low. I would say a more realistic figure would be somewhere starting around 200k. You never know though... there are probably all sorts of foreclosures/bank owned homes available at a steal! GL!

I don't neccesarily agree with this. I think it is just a matter of preference. I too grew up in the Miami area and I think the South of Miami has some incredibly beautiful areas. Coral Gables, Pinecrest, parts of South Miami, Old Cutler Bay etc ( granted I am not sure if you can get anything there for 200K).
North of Miami the only place "I" would personally want to live is Weston but like I said it is a matter of preference like prefering LI, over NJ over Westchester etc.
It really depends on what you are looking for.

Re: Who is familiar with Florida??
I love Coral Gables, and also Brickell but these areas are on the higher side. I don't know about the schools but the location can't be beat!
45-60 minutes away is Coral Springs, in Ft Lauderdale. It is a beautiful area and very family friendly. I believe the schools there are pretty good.
