Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We leave tomorrow for ours, and I've always heard rumors of upgrades, but I'm curious if anyone actually received Any

I would google the place you are staying and "upgrade" and see what, if anything, people say.

Have a good trip!

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We got our room upgraded on mine but I'm not sure if that was standard policy because of honeymoons, or a result of them knowing my family.

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We didn't receive upgrades, but we received gifts at each hotel (Hawaiian islands). We received a photo book, a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries and a catamaran ride.

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We did! We stayed at the Occidential in Aruba for 11 nights. We were originally booked into a jacuzzi suite and when we arrived they told us we were upgraded to private check in. So once we me with the concierge at the end she informed us we were upgraded to the presidential suite which had a living room, dining room, bedroom, 2 bathrooms 3 balconies and 2! Jacuzzis.
I'm not sure if it was because we stayed for so long or because our travel agent who was one of our groomsmens hooked us up. Whichever it was sooooooo nice!!!!! I wanna go back so bad!

Kayla I hope you have an amazing vacation! If you need any books for the beach (yes i read on my honeymoon) send me a message and can borroe on the Nook

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

Well when we went to Hawaii we stayed at the Grand Wailea..we paid $400/night for a standard room...but we were upgraded to a tower with this gorgeous private suite that was over $1,000/night! It was incredible. I also don't know if its standard (if they have it available they give it) but it was amazing. We had an incredible breakfast every morning and happy hour in the tour that had tons of food and free drinks...

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We did, room-wise, after a horrendous check in experience.
Didn't make up for the rest of the bad trip.

Get chatty with the staff during check in. Try getting chatty with the airline check in also.

Enjoy your honeymoon and have a great time !

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We did (Hawaii), but I think it was because we booked through my travel agent that we use all the time and it was more due to her than the fact that it was our honeymoon.

I think upgrades would be less common in places that cater to honeymooners (less availability, etc.)

we did (Sandals). our travel agents are one of the top for Sandals and know all the managers and told us they would get us upgraded...and boy did they!
we got a private villa with our own pool and butler :) plus little things here and there.

i never booked a trip thru a travel agent, but now i do bc of that reason!

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We stayed at 3 hotels on our honeymoon.

We had a bottle of champagne at each and a small gift from the travel agent.

One hotel also gave us chocolate covered strawberries with the champagne.

We did get a room upgrade from 1 hotel. (garden view to ocean view) But first they asked us if we wanted to pay to upgrade, when we declined they gave it to us anyway so I have a feeling that's all they had available and were trying to get us to pay for it.

When we checked in, they upgraded us to a villa when we had originally reserved a suite. It was great! Just make sure to tell them that you're on your HM.

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We received champagne and chocolates in our rooms (2 hotels) but no upgrades. We were already in just about the highest room categories though.

Make sure you tell EVERYONE you are on your honeymoon.

We went to Rome, then a cruise. We got a lot of little things on the cruise...although I suspect they do that for anyone on a honeymoon....

BUt as you check in for you rflight "its our Honeymoon", at the hotel, at the bar getting a drink...

We got chocolate covered strawberries and an upgraded room at the hotel in Maui - but, I think the upgrade was more because we were at a Westin and we are an SPG gold card member and were paying for the room due to a snafu with points (which we got squared away while we were there so we got what we paid refunded).

We also got upgraded to a suite for our first night in Waikiki Beach but, I think it was just because we were staying one night.

We didn't get any upgrades, and we stayed at 3 different places. But, we didn't really tell anyone we were on our honeymoon either, so I definitely agree with the PPs who said to make it known! Have an amazing time!

Re: Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We were treated great on our HM and rec'd lots of special treatment which I thought was very nice and sweet of the people working...

On American Airlines, flying to California and then Hawaii, we rec'd a complimentary bottle of champagne. On the small flight from San Diego to Oahu the flight attended gave us a dessert to share from first class (we flew coach the whole time) and a couple of glasses of wine. They were just so friendly and kind.

We stayed in San Diego for three nights but it was just at a Courtyard by Marriott b/c we were there to see the zoo, Sea World, Old Town, Gas Lamp, Catalina, etc. so there really was no way to "upgrade" because it was a basic hotel.

We flew to Oahu and were booked in a regular tower of the Hilton Hawaiian Village and were upgraded to the "Royal" Tower (they call it something with an "A" that's Hawaiian and I can't pronounce)... It was the tower with concierge, a private pool, and all suites - so, our room had a wrap-around terrace and we had a high up room with ocean view. So, that was a big upgrade because we had a basic garden room booked. It was really beautiful and the hotel was great, staff was great.

We then went to Kauai - we rec'd a small upgrade there, they gave us free champagne in the room, and a turn down service with a dessert and whatnot - this is not an all-inclusive hotel so to have anything given would normally cost you. They did not put us on a second floor room (the hotel was only two stories, three at the most if I remember right)... we had a garden room booked and they basically gave us a better location of a garden room with ocean and lagoon views... closer to pools and stuff. So, I mean, it was better than nothing. That was at the Grand Hyatt.

The last place we went was Maui and this is where we hit the mother-load! It was great! We stayed in Wailea Beach at the Grand Wailea - hands down, best place I have ever been to. So, when we checked in we had booked a partial ocean view basic room - this was where we were spending the bulk of our time, seven days, so we wanted at least a little bit of a view. It was a few floors up, you could see the ocean almost completely, and it was a very pretty room, decent size. When we checked in I didn't really say anything about being on our HM because it was our last hotel and I guess you get tired of saying it? Or I was just tired from the trip but we didn't say anything. Vinny was doing most of the talking and the girl at the check-in desk thought he was the greatest thing Chat Icon So, we went up to see the room, our bags were not there yet because they were having someone bring them to us, we left the room to go to the lobby bar for a minute, just to relax. As we walk past the main desk the lady that helped us said "how was it?!" and Vinny said, "oh it was nice" and I guess he didn't say it with the biggest enthusiasm in the world but don't get me wrong, it was lovely, but she was like "Was it not what you expected??" and Vinny said "honestly, I didn't know what to expect - but we spent a little more on this room per night vs. our other hotels and I guess I thought it was going to be grander, I don't know, but trust me - it's beautiful and we love it" and she motioned for us to come closer... She winks and goes, "let me try something else if you don't mind moving", So we said "well, no it's not a problem because our bags aren't even there yet" - so, she called the bell desk, mentioned about the bags, told them another room number, gave us two keys, and said "FIND me after you see it and let me know what you think" and she had this sneaky grin on. So, we RAN up to see this room and when we got to the elevator you needed a separate key to access the floor we were going to. That was the first sign lol. Then, when we got to where we were going there were TWO doors, not just one. The suite she put us in was TO DIE FOR - there was a foyer, half bath, big living room, huge TV, HUUUUGE terrace (this was on the top floor), then a big dining room, full bar, kitchen, separate door for waitstaff (lol like we would use that!), and then a SECOND huge terrace in the dining room, then a master bedroom with a GIGANTIC third terrace and the bathroom was bigger than our original room. It was a huge soaking tub, his/hers vanity, huge steam and standing shower, and the windows and terraces I just couldn't get over - we had three balconies! The room was about 1,600 square feet which was the size of our first home Chat Icon Chat Icon It was ridiculous. I was like, THANK YOU for talking to that girl, getting her to like you, making your corny-ass jokes, etc. because that clearly got us this upgrade - she just took a liking to him. I think the nicer you are, the bigger difference it makes. I really do. The sweeping ocean views were just unbelievable and we were in an exclusive section, with a special concierge floor, it was just a dream. It was the perfect way to end our HM. I'll never forget it. We found that girl from the front desk and gave her the biggest hug! She was so happy that we were impressed lol it was adorable.

A few days later the valet, you have to valet your rental car in this hotel, knocked our size mirror off while parking by accident. It was no big deal to us, they went and took care of it with the rental company for us, gave us another car, all by the time we went to use the car again. So, when we got down to pick up the new car they were so apologetic that they offered us a free dinner at their nicest restaurant Humu Humu. So, we ate there that night and it was several hundred dollars - tip and all - and they covered it for our "inconvenience" when there really wasn't any... Put it this way, we weren't even going to eat at that restaurant because we couldn't afford it lol. So, yeah it was just a lot of luck but I think being friendly, outgoing, and mentioning your HM in a genuine way actually does really pay off.

HTH! Best of luck - ENJOY IT!!! Chat Icon

Who received upgrades on their honeymoon?

We did! The resorts in Thailand seemed to really love honeymooners! The second resort we stayed at upgraded us to a private villa with beach access and our own private pool.

When we went to Hawaii for our 1 yr anniversary we told them it was our honeymoon (whoops) and they gave us a ton of free stuff. Champagne, desserts with dinners every night and one free dinner... the Hyatt in Kauai upgraded our room the one in Maui did not.
