Who the heck is managing LIPA's budget?
30 m spent on storm preparation
I find it utterly ridiculous that this is allowed to happen. 30 MILLION on storm that never even came? I don't understand how this can be allowed to happen. Where did they spend all this money?

sounds a little fishy to me... because the end result naturally will be to raise the rates to compensate for this gross overspending.

They may of prepared for worse case senerio having everybody on standby to dispatch. Obviously, that is a whole separate issue about who made that call but they were prepared. A co-works SO had to cancel his bachelor party because of the prep work for the storm.
He is a linesman for LIPA and everybody was required to work even if you had vacation days, travel arrangements, etc.. He was beyond ****** as this effect many other people that took off for his party.

this is one giant scam. This utility is so poorly managed.
My condo in AZ has year round utility bills of about $125 a month with central air on all of the time all year.
It's not much smaller than my house.

agreed but i can imagine that amount of services, resources needed for this. This island is not small and yes, LIPA does need to be better managed amongst many things that are wrong.

The price tag is outrageous but I did see one article that indicated they brough hundreds of workers with trucks and equipment to LI and they were here Thurs - Sat. and they were paid to be on hand. I'm sure that included housing and meals for them too. It would be nice to see them give an itemized accounting before they can put through a rate increase. Of course we'd all be equally angry if the hurricane had come through worse than predicted and they were not prepared and we were all without power (and LIF) for a week or more.
