Who to contact? Electrical line/pole in yard to be moved

Im assuming the town?
In my case, town of oyster bay?

Its in the back, an area where I would like to place a shed but cant and I have a 2yr old who runs back there, DANGEROUS!

I border a park, which Im hoping they can move over into there.
Then again, maybe that is WHY its in my yard Chat Icon

TIA!

It is most likely a veizon or LIPA pole. I am not sure they will move it for you, unless you pay for it, even then, it's most likely going to be an issue.

If you go into your yard, there should be a tag (either a bell or LIPA and then you'll know who's it is.) and call that company.

You're not suppose to have utility poles on your property.

Let me rephrase that... They're not suppose to put utility poles on private property.

Check your survey to make sure that's your property. It might actually have info on what kind of pole it is.

I think it a big issue to get a pole moved - lots of $$$$. I would start with the town

good luck!!

I'm in the town of Huntington and about every other house has a utility pole on their property... the first few feet of land is really owned by the town, so technically the poles are on town property

Utility poles are generally not on private property. If it's behind your house, there is probably a strip of property that runs down the block, behind all the houses that is an easement owned by LIPA, Verizon or the Town or County.

As someone else mentioned, if you have a survey of your property, you might see on there whose property the pole is on. You can always ask them to move it, but it's unlikely that they will.

Re: Who to contact? Electrical line/pole in yard to be moved

You have to call LIPA's design team (google the number).

They are the department that handles stuff like this.

I got them to move a power line that was running directly across my backyard over to the side near the property line to accomodate the Hot Tub I bought.

They wanted to charge me at first, but since this line move was to benefit their overall network, they waived the charge for me. I also was able to push them to move this line because the line would have ran directly over my hot tub, which would have been an obvious fire hazard. Took them about two months to do the job, and I had to have the hot tub physically there for them to do anything (so they had proof I was actually getting a hot tub - not just telling them I was getting one for the sale of moving the line).

Regarding moving an entire utility pole, I doubt they will do that just because you want to have a shed installed. But I guess you can ask them.

my neighbor had similar & he called LIPA (it was a LIPA pole) & the money they watned to charge him to move it was insane. He ended up just dealing with it & he has 3 kids under the age of 5

Ugh, thanks!

Its not a pole exactly.

It looks like wiring, covered by a metal plate covering (Im assuming that is the part that protects it) that is anchored into the ground.

Its def in my yard...def my property.
