Whole Foods Vs. Trader Joe's
I have never been to Whole Foods before, since I never knew there were two in Nassau. Brian stopped there for me on his way home to pick something up for me and said it was HUGE.
Are they expensive? How do their prices compare to Trader Joe's? I am wondering if it would be worth making the hour trip to check out . . . .

Re: Whole Foods Vs. Trader Joe's
Whole Foods is great but EXTREMELY expensive. Trader Joe's is even cheaper than my supermarket on some items so in my book it doesn't even compare.

They are a bit pricey, but if you go to a bigger one, like the one in Manhasset, they have a tremendous selection. Their produce section alone is bigger then the whole Trader Joes in Merrick. Plus they have a deli and a fresh sushi & seafood bar that is to die for.

Re: Whole Foods Vs. Trader Joe's
trader joe's is pretty small, its not a full fledged supermarket. They have a lot of specialty items i would say, not the hugest produce dept. or meats or anything like that. Also no regular brands. Whole Foods is a huge supermarket that has pretty much everythign.

I kind of figured that . . . . Trader Joe's is really reasonable for a lot of things.
I heard that The Chix Taquitos in the frozen section of Whole Foods were really good. Brian works all over Nassau so I asked him to pick them up for me if he got a chance. They were REALLY YUMMY and REALLY HEALTHY. This is what got me curious about Whole Foods to start . . .

Re: Whole Foods Vs. Trader Joe's
i have yet to get to a trader joe's, but can't wait to make the trip.
i personally likes garden of eden over whole foods when we shopped in manhattan. the whole foods in madison, nj just isn't the same. produce and selection-wise i don't know what whole foods has that trader joe's doesn't and vice versa...
what we need more of down here are WEGMAN's - they would blow everyone away!

There's a TJ and Whole Foods in White Plains - I prefer Whole Foods because it has a larger selection.

Re: Whole Foods Vs. Trader Joe's
Whole Foods has a lot more stuff, but it is very expensive. I go once in a while for specific products.
Fairway also has a lot of organic products and is less expensive than Whole Foods.
But I love Trader Joe's. They don't have much as far as fresh produce and meats, but I love what they do carry.

Re: Whole Foods Vs. Trader Joe's
I love Whole Foods, we go there for lunch sometimes during the work day.
We have one also near our house, I rarely go there because it's easy to spend DH and I went to Wegmans on Saturday for the first ime and I'm Unfortunately there is not one near where we live.

Re: Whole Foods Vs. Trader Joe's
Some of the produce at Whole Foods is very reasonably priced. I've bought raspberries there for a lot less than I've paid at fruit stands (I'm in the city).

I know, everytime we go to visit my dad in Pt. Jeff, DH complains about 347. He hates driving out there... and honestly, so do I!

Trader Joe's is about one tenth the size of Whole Foods. You can get every fruit and vegetable imaginable at Whole Foods - organic and non-organic. Trader Joe's has oh maybe 5 or 6 fruits ond 5 or 6 veggies (usually) and they come pre-packaged. No meat dept. -- pre-packaged meats. No fish counter. WHole Foods has prepared foods, paper goods, herbal and holistic medicines and toilitries, about 5,000 cheeses, just as many pates..... etc. It's a much more complete supermarket. And just about everything is organic, while Trader Joe's is not nec. organic - and they only offer 1 or 2 brands usually, 1 being their own label.

You can get there without taking 347. Take the LIE to Old Nichols Rd head North all the way to the end. Make a left. The mall will be straight ahead on the food court side.
