Who's in for the LI half-marathon?
It is on Sunday May 3rd at Eisenhower park. I want to do it this year.
I am going to start a 12-week training program the week of 2/8!
Who's with me?

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since this will be my first 1/2 and I now know I am prone to runners knee I will be taking it easy I will most likely be following this one by Hal Higdon:
Novice 1/2 training guide

Re: Who's in for the LI half-marathon?
Oh I wanted to try that... but unfortunately my running fell to the wayside the past couple of weeks (months ) and I don't think I can get myself in shape for it so soon
ETA: anyone know of any on LI in the fall?

Re: Who's in for the LI half-marathon?
Me! i do it every year!
My goal is to break 2 hours since having kids!
ETA: The new course is absolutely fantastic - pretty flat and goes quickly (always changing scenery).
also - LOVE me Hal Higdon! I use him all the time! If you want to start sooner - just double some of the early weeks.

Re: Who's in for the LI half-marathon?
How far is a 1/2. 13 miles? The most I've run is 7 miles, so I don't think I can get in shape in time for it (while still running a respectable time).

I think i read somewhere that said if you can do half the distance of the race you are in good shape!

Are you kidding me??? You are running more than enough! There is plenty of time for training (check out that link I posted).
I am not even thinking about time I just want to finish without stopping

But my schedule doesn't leave much time for long runs. Especially now with the WW starting up (first training on Sunday ). Unless I start doing them in the morning instead of in the middle of the day. but I don't want to burn myself out.
Hmmm...let me think about it. I have until the beginning of February to decide, right?

Try going to www.glirc.org
I haven't looked to see if they have the full year's schedule up yet, but that's where it would be.

Re: Who's in for the LI half-marathon?
I really want to!! I just starting working out again after having DD 8 months ago. I'm only up to running about 2 miles now. I'm scared I won't be able to do it I also have to be careful about my knee since I had been going to PT for a lot of pain. Seems okay but I'm scared to push it.

I contemplate it every year, but I never do it. Perhaps, this year will be the year. I have a pretty good base now. J

I'm in - DH decided he wanted to do the full marathon that day! I need to talk to him to figure out who will watch Cailen, but we have been discussing me doing the 1/2

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since this will be my first 1/2 and I now know I am prone to runners knee I will be taking it easy I will most likely be following this one by Hal Higdon:
Novice 1/2 training guide
this is a silly question but I'm gonna ask anyway while looking at the training sched what does it me when it says "stretch & strengthen" and when it says " cross" ex 2m run or cross" thanks

On the strength and stretch days - you don't do cardio - you spend more time stretching out your muscles, and doing upper body and core work.... Cross train can be any cardio other than running - he says you can even walk! But I like to do the elliptical, or the wave runner machine. You can actually do a 2 mi run on that day, or 2 miles on an elliptical or bike, etc....
