My husband has smoked for 15 years and cant seem to find something to help him quit, he has tried the gum and the commit lozenges but nothing has helped anyone suggest anything

Re: Whose had success quitting smoking
I think you just have to be really ready
I smoked for about 20 years
I used the patches, but only for a day or two b/c they made me feel sick
After that I just did it on my own

Re: Whose had success quitting smoking
My SIL quit a few years ago. She went through the Suffolk County Cessation program. Not sure where you are, but here is some info on that.http://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/webtemp3.cfm?dept=6&id=2695
I am not sure if she went to many meetings, but I know she used the inhaler thingy but it seems like the prescription medication worked best for her. The drugs and everything were free to her through the program.
Good luck!!!

Re: Whose had success quitting smoking
i smoked for just over 10 years.... everyone tried to get me to quit, i tried a couple of times, but was kind of indifferent to it.
then i just decided that i didnt want to be a smoker anymore... so i just quit. that was 2 months ago... and i'm still going strong.
i still get cravings here and there... but they pass pretty quickly- i just preoccupy myself with something when the feeling comes on. To be honest, the Hardest part was the 2nd week. 1st week wasnt too bad, and beginning in the 3rd week, it got much easier, but i think if you can make it through the 2nd week-- it was enough to keep me going.
its Hard...its still hard for me at times... but like the others said... he has to REALLY want to/be ready to quit for it to work.
smoking is like everything else in life- its a decision you make to either do it or not do it. granted one option is easier than the other, but when it comes down to it- you have to power to Decide, and follow through with that decision.

fighting with him really wont do much, unfortunately. my DH hated that i smoked- it was always a source of conflict for us... but (i know this sounds horrible).. but when he would start on the 'stop smoking' kick... i would just automatically tune him out.

Re: Whose had success quitting smoking
I smoked for 10 years and quit by using the patch. I was a pack a day + smoker. I didn't use the patch for very long because after a while it made me nauseous. That was 5 1/2 years ago.

Re: Whose had success quitting smoking
I always said that if my smoking started affecting my health, that I would quit.
I started getting chronic bronchitis. It would take weeks to get better, I'd have 2 weeks of feeling good, and get sick again. This happened three times. Last time, I developed pneumonia.
I never smoked when I was sick because I had asthma too, so the wheezing was bad. So when the doc told me about the pneumonia, I had had enough.
I quit cold turkey after 10 years. I even kept a pack of cigarettes in my kitchen for months afterwards and didn't have one.
I threw that pack away and that was the end of it. Which isn't to say I still don't want one once in a while. But I don't crave it anymore.
I wish him luck.
