I just saw on Georgian news that Nodar's father was his trainer and he was there when this happened Chat Icon
They said the video and the news of his death was all over the news before they had a chance to call the rest of the family back in Georgia how horribleChat Icon Chat Icon

The media is sooooo insensitive. They care more about sensationalism than compassion these days. Very tragic.Chat Icon

Re: WHY

when they showed it before the opening ceremony, they did say a warning about the video being graphic... but I still dont think they should show it, I just felt like crying for this young man...
they are saying that the course is not at fault, that he died because of his inexperience (something about the way he took the last turn)... but I saw a lot of experience athletes crash in their test runs, so I dont know...
may he rest in peace, so tragic Chat Icon

Re: WHY

The photos were all over my newspaper today. I think it's really sick. I feel so bad for his family and friends, why should his last moments of life, and his death even be on display like that?

I read a whole article about this. One of the most experiences lugers said it's a total misrepresentation to blame it on his "inexperience", one of the turns was called the "50-50 turn" because that was the chance you would crash on it. The course was just extremely difficult (maybe too difficult) and Canada also limited the practice time people from other countries had.

Why is there such a need to have more drama and bigger and faster and more dangerous sports? Is that what the Olympics is all about?

The news last night said the the International Luge Organization said the luge was too fast. Haven't heard that since. Another case of we'll never know the truth.

I heard it cost 100 MILLION $$$ to create this course, the should have spent a little mose $$ and added some protective padding to those metal bars!!! So sad Chat Icon
