Why are my 3 week old's eyes running?

We woke up this morning and DD's eyes are all watery and crusty. Do you think she has a cold aready? Her nose isnt running or anything and she doesn't have a fever. I read online that she may have a clogged tear duct. Does anyone have experience with this?

DS had clogged tear ducts.

We just used a warm wet washcloth and gently rubbed the inside of his eye. It went away within a week.

Yup. My DS had a clogged tear duct and the same thing happened to us. Warm compress a few times a day and massage from the inner part of the nose to the inner part of the eye. It cleared up on its own, however it took a few months and we had a few days where the crust was greenish yellow. Dr. said it was perfectly normal! (Just kinda funky looking!)

Probably a clogged duct. VERY common in NB's. My DD had it and it cleared up on its own. Ped doesn't do anything about it unless it's persisting past age 1. Just use a warm washcloth to clean up the gunk and let it run its course. Chat Icon

It's probably a nasoclacrimal duct obstruction.

NLDO

When you do the massage, don't be afraid to push. You have to close the tear duct tube and "pop" the valve down at the nose like a balloon. When see a doctor, have them show you.
