Re: why cant I stick to a diet/healthy eating plan??
I could have written this myself. I am still carrying around about 20-25 lbs. of baby weight and DS is 11 months old. I am really good most of the time and have been losing weight slowly but than once I have a bad day I find it hard to get back on track. I am so sick of going shopping and trying to find clothes that fit me and being chunky. I feel uncomfortable, I think I look bad and want to feel good about myself again.

Re: why cant I stick to a diet/healthy eating plan??
Please dont mind my bluntness but...... the only thing you CAN do is..... STOP EATING CRAP!!!
When you go food shopping, dont buy crap. Find healthier snacks etc. Lately i have been slacking in the gym bc im bored so im at least cutting back my calories to compensate and its AMAZING how important diet is to weight gain/loss.
ETA: you should keep a food diary. Youd be amazed how much you eat and youll be disgusted w/ it and that might motivate you to change.
GOOD LUCK!! Its hard but if you REALLY want this- you can do it. EAT FRUIT!!!!!!!!!!

LeighAnn,
Please don't be upset for me saying this!! I am not trying to upset you but I feel that it has to be said. I have seen your posts on the D&F boards before. I remember that you were very successful at one time, but I also remember thinking that you may be doing too much too fast.
Sometimes, we are so desparate to just get the weight off as quickly as possible, we go to drastic measures. I am not saying what you were doing was crazy or anything like that, however I do feel like it may just be too overwhelming at times, causing you to overeat and then start the cycle all of again.
My suggestion for you is to take baby steps. Start slowly and give yourself small goals. The first week it may be just cutting portions. The next it may be upping your water consumption and your exercise. This is not going to work for YOU unless it is something YOU can live with. Don't beat yourself up for "cheating." ALLOW yourself a treat every now and then. Don't be so hard on yourself
I know I probably sound like a broken record, but if you haven't tried weight watchers I highly recommend it. It's a great program and something I am sure you can easily incorporate into your life.
Good luck and don't give up You CAN do it!!!!!!!

Re: why cant I stick to a diet/healthy eating plan??
I agree with the above posters - thats why I put up a wellness challenge - to encourage people to actually bemore mindful and actually come up with a plan - a specific plan that can be achieved rather tha overwhelm oneself with a huge feat like losing 20 lbs...
I am almost a yr post partum, and it took me that long to lose 20 lbs. every single day of this year - it was gruelling, but worth it.
There is rarely junk in our house. The most you will ever see is one bag of chips that DH and his daughters usually polish off on a weekend, and cookie dough - one package that lasts a week unless the girls eat it in a weekend. I eat sorbet which is my junk food...
Your best bet is a bunch of fun, enjoyable and healthy snacks throughout the day. Buy those "Take and Toss" containers - those cute and colorful little ones, and fill them up. Put almonds in one. Grape tomatoes in another. Hummos in another. Low-fat Yogurt in another. Wheat crackers in another.... Snack all day from those little cups - you'll get instant portion control, and tons of variety....
At night - squeeze in some extra exercise wherever you can. Have a jumping jack challenge with your kids during a commercial - or a push up challenge. Every little bit counts!!! Do squats while you are brushing your teeth. I lift Cailen up and down, working my arms and legs at the same time
The more fun and a part of your life, the more you will naturally gravitate towards this as a lifestyle. Don't make it a chore, and don't make it a misery....

Re: why cant I stick to a diet/healthy eating plan??
I've tried different diets before and they have all failed and led to more weight gain. I'm finally on Weight Watchers because everyone I see who has successfully lost weight and kept it off has done this. I'm on the Flex Plan. I still eat pizza and small amounts of m&m's here and there so I don't feel deprived at all.

WW works for alot of people and its easy, but you really should start excerising. What about going for walks on the track or around your neighborhood.

Two words...Weight Watchers. The points system is great. Me and my wife both lost a lot of weight on it and we are Italian so we love to eat. LOL
I have to disagree with eating hummus and almonds. There are so many things that are healthy but are still very fattening. Almonds are one of them and usually Hummus is LOADED with oil. Again, yes oil is a very healthy thing, but if you are trying to lose weight...it's terrible.
Just an example...a Tbs of oil on WW is 4 points...a Hershey Bar is 5. Of course oil is healthier but just as fattening. Many people eat huge salads and can't figure out why they're not losing weight. Well, if you put on a decent amount of oil, it could be like putting 4 hershey bars on your salad.
I personally recommend the points system on WW combined with cardio 4 times a week.

Re: why cant I stick to a diet/healthy eating plan??
I hate using the word diet because then people always see an end in sight. Instead, you really must change how/what you eat. Try not to bring junk food in the house (I know easier said than done when other people are in the\household. Right now is a great time to buy fruit. I like to cut it up in the beginning of the week so whenever I want a snack I can easily grab it instead of reaching for junk food.
I think an integral part of any day is exercise. I am not sure how much time you have to devote to it - but I try to do at least 45 minutes of cardio four times a week and start lifting weights. Weight lifting allows you to burn more calories throughout the day when compared to cardio only

Leighann where are you living now?
FM me
Maybe we can get together some early evenings and walk. It would be fun to catch up and you can take the kids.
Start slow and you will get results.
