Why do people believe that just because you know me, my husband can fix your tickets
Every so often a co-worker will approach me and ask if my DH can fix a ticket they received. I just don't understand why people think that my husband will use up all his favors on people that are just acquaintances of mine. I have never ever told someone that he would be able to do anything to help them out.
Today a co-worker who I am friendly with, but not someone who I would invite over for a bbq, calls me while he is being arrested for a suspended license. I over hear him telling the arresting Officer that he know my DH and he is a LT...bla bla bla. Meanwhile if the PO called my DH, my DH would have no idea who my co-worker is.
Coworker then asks me to call DH to help him out. I explained that my DH is in an all day cram course preparing for the Capt exam this Sat. and is unreachable...(which is true)
I think the whole thing is super strange. I would never ask a co-worker to get involved in my personal affairs to such an extent. I really hate when people ask me to get involved. It puts me in a very awkward positon.
Mind you, if the person asking for the favor, is someone that I would invite to my children's birthday parties, or someone who I would invite to dinner, then of course I would as DH to do what he can. But this is not something that I want to get involved in, for someone that I barely know.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I think you are 100% right.
It really is nervy of someone to expect your DH help them when your DH does not even know them

It drives my brother nuts too. We have a family member who cornered him at a family party and asked very loudly why he didn't get a PBA card since my brother knows he gets lots of speeding tickets and it would really help him out.

I know exactly what you mean!
We've had some old "friends" call up DH or me and say "Yo can he help me out???"
Um...just because he's a cop doesn't mean he is gonna bend over backwards for you, someone he barely speaks to or knows at all.
Oh and good luck to your DH on the Captain's exam! Good for him....I know that is a tough one!

I hear ya! The other day some family friends cousin wanted to talk with DH because he got a ticket in Niagra falls and he lives in PA...My DH is like what the hell can I do?
People even family you don't hear for months or years end up calliing because they got a ticket lol.

I also hear that POs are losing their jobs fixing tickets.
My SIL is a detective and she couldn't help me with parking tickets.

DH's uncle is a detective and we have never nor would we ever even THINK to ask that! I have his card but I keep it on me just in case something HAPPENS to me, as in I am a victim of a crime and want a friendly face around. . .

Exactly! It's not like it used to be where you can just make a ticket go away.
Once he submits the paperwork it's in the system.
People are just so rude.
You know what- you did something wrong. Own up to it and pay the freakin' ticket and drive more safely next time!!!! My DH is not going to risk his job and pension because you are an a-hole!

I would be tempted to tell them "don't do the crime if you can't pay the fine". You were speeding. Your license was suspended. Get over yourself and pay up. People have ballz

My DH is a PO and we just bought our house a year ago. After living in the house for a couple of weeks our neighbor who we really never spoke to came over and asked my husband if he can help out a friend of his that has gotten a ticket 2 days in a row. Like are you kidding me we hardly know you and you have the nerve to ask for your friend.

Omg, that is so ballsy it's not even funny! I won't even ask family members who are cops to help me out! If I did something wrong and get a ticket, I pay the price. I mean, really. And sometimes, you don't do anything wrong and it's just bad luck. I would NEVER abuse my relationship with someone, especially not a co-worker, like that!

I don't like how other cops/law enforcement or close family members can get out of tickets, either.
I probably would never have to pay for a ticket in my life with my DH's career, and if I ever got one, I'd just pay it.
I think rules should be for everyone, and no special exceptions should be made.
I know people who have gotten out of a DUI, and people who have gotten out of blowing a stop sign.
I know all jobs have benefits, but this shouldn't be one.
You're supposed to lead by example.
The issue of people asking for "assistance" to get out a ticket wouldn't exist if no one got special treatment.

I agree. It's really not right that some people get away with things because they happen to be related to or friends with a cop.
That said, what that coworker did to you was really nervy! Sorry you have to go through that. It must be very uncomfortable.

Oh that's so RUDE!
Kenneth would have a stroke!  He used to flip out if we told anyone he was a Police Officer let alone if they were to start throwing his name around. He liked to stay 'below the radar', lol, little did he know!

You are 100% right. My brother gets these friends, of friends of friends trying to call in favors all the time. He just laughs and .
I think people fail to realize that these officers are asking for FAVORS and they will not be wasted on people that they do not know.

People are so RUDE, they do they same thing to Doctors, asking medical advice everytime they go out in public. UMMM...hello, it's their job, they don't do it for free....grrrr....
