why do people hear a fraction of your conversation and jump to conclusions?

a co-worker of mine just graduated college and got a "real" job in the same company. another co-worker and i were talking about how she's leaving our dept for bigger and better. we are genuinely happy for her. the college grad happens to look GREAT, very tan and cute. a walking barbie doll.

in jest (with her knowing what i was saying and knowing it was in jest), i say, "she's so cute that everytime she walks by i want to trip her."

well... another person who works here walked by and only heard, "... everytime she walks by i want to trip her." she ASSumed i was talking about her... because, of course, the world revolves around her.

she, actually, went to our supervisor almost crying saying that i said this about her. so, i get called into the boss' office. by the time all was said and done... she ended up having to apologize to ME.

some people!!!!
she's so full of herself. i don't know her from a hole in the wall. she's only been here a few weeks.

I'm sorry she put you through that, but I'm glad your supervisor did the right thing!
