The point of waiting is usually to determine your cycles. Dating a pregnancy can be very useful and helpful in alleviating a lot of confusion.

Some women go off the pill and need a few months to "adjust" and determine their cycle.

There is also a now proven false belief that getting PG immediately after stopping BCP increases the chances of m/c. (at least that is what my OB/GYN told me, but the internet research I did said that wasn't true).

No - definetely not. I hope my post didn't infer that.

Physically, I would not say it's "bad" to get pregnant right away. The potential obstacles occur if you don't know your cycle, then you don't have a LMP date to determine your EDD. When you don't have this, I think it just makes things a little bit more of a guessing game, but not necessarily harmful.

For me, I just felt better being off the hormones for a period of time. I have been told that it doesn't affect anything, but it just made me feel better.

oh ok. So it's about trying to time the delivery. It's not like we are in a rush to get preggo. But I got scared what if it did happen quick. I was about to go to the store and get a "back-up" BC

The pill often masks problems by regulating you through hormones. By going off the pill and waiting, you and your doctor are able to see all of the positive and negative aspects of your cycle and there are more than you know.

i went off the pill august '05, and had a regular period september, and got preggo after that period! and DD was born june '06, and she is fine! so yeah, i dont think there is any real reason to wait....it was weird, i had decided to go off the pill bc DH and i were going to be married in about a year, so i figured, let me go off the pill now and get a nice year of regular periods and then start TTC...WELL, look what happened a month later! lol- no rhyme and reason to it, and yeah, probly just to know how many days yur cycle is without the help of BCP....

I was told to wait just to regulate yourself and let your hormones get back to normal. This was my plan, but we weren't trying to prevent preganancy either. I never even got my pd once after I stopped the pill...got pg right away. All is fine so far and my Dr. never seemed concerned about it being just off the pill.

My doctor just said it so that they can get a better estimate of due date.

I had the misconception that the hormones stayed with you for a while... but she said it was only 3 days.

We are waiting 2 months to see how my cycle is off BCP. I was on for 6 years so we want to make sure everything goes back to the way it should be. More for a peace of mind then anything else I suppose.

Oh, I just remembered one more reason for waiting. My midwife recommended me having at least 2 months of prenatals in my system, more for the folic acid then anything else.
