Why is having your mouth wide open the new thing in pictures?
I always saw Britney Spears doing it and my niece does it too. I see it everywhere.
I don't really want to see the inside of anyone's mouth, personally.
When did this happen, that opening wide was supposed to be funny or cute in a picture?

I thought it was just that someone took the pics candidly and they were in mid-speech.
My niece has no less than 6 pictures of her on her myspace with her mouth open like she's saying "HA!"
Upon browsing other pages of friends and their friends, I've found 10 more.
I noticed it with Britney and I've seen pictures of Tyra Banks do it too. Way too many molar shots.

I think it's a goofy shot also. It's a take off on the traditional smile thing, more candid & also if you have big cheeks it makes you look slightly thinner. Not saying anyone should do it - I'm not looking to see anyone's dental work either.
I could only picture my grandmother's generation saying "Why is showing your teeth the new thing in pictures?" (her generation didn't show teeth, they smiled with their mouths closed) or her mother saying "Why are people suddenly smiling in pictures?" (that generation didn't smile for pictures at all).

HA! I have to say Tilde.. when I saw this post I IMMEDIATELY thought of your bachelorette party pics! It's hilarious that you posted this!
The open mouth pictures are not as annoying to me as the pursed lip thing that the teens and tweens to -- you know the fake pout, chin tilted up and often with a sideways peace sign? That bugs me. It's funny how these 'poses' spread.

THAT'S THE OTHER THING THEY DO ALL THE TIME.
I blame MySpace. Everyone wants a cute profile picture that stands out in a friend's list probably.
I once asked my blond haired, blue eyed, petite little thing niece if she thought she was gangsta or something. She said, "Oh, Aunt Tiesha, you kill me." and laughed.
Damn. I think I am getting old. I used to be the cool Aunt.

We've done the open mouth in picture thing for years (like since HS and I am probably your age)- no particular reason, it's just for laughs.
Don't really see how opening your mouth for a photo can be construed as "new"
