Why Progesterone Suppositories instead of the pills?
I've been reading a lot about Progesterone Suppositories. Why does everyone do the suppositories since they're so messy, if it comes in the pill form? If I had a choice, I'd do the pill form. Just curious? Thanks!

i'm currently stimming in my ivf cycle but i have the pio and the pills in my drawer. the pills you are going to take like 4 times a day since they dont last as long as the pio. i heard that suppositories are just twice a day.

I always took pills before I moved to PIO. They can make you sleepy (I was fine) but I couldn't tolerate the glycerine in the supps. And I only had to take the pills twice a day.

I had the pills 4 times per day until I was 12 weeks pregnant.
The pills were pretty messy. They are not taken orally.

from what i heard pills have more side effects and less absorption than the suppositories. the suppositories apparently deliver more progesterone to the right place. not sure if that's entirely accurate it's just what i have heard.

Yes, they can be taken orally, or used as a vaginal insert.

Re: Why Progesterone Suppositories instead of the pills?
The progesterone pill has a lot more side effects. The first day that I took it as a pill, I was so dizzy that I couldn't walk. I was nauseous, dizzy, and couldn't focus. I had no idea where I was or what I was doing. I started using them as a suppository per my doctor's instructions and I was fine.

I know that... many RE's prescribe them vaginally though.

Re: Why Progesterone Suppositories instead of the pills?
Thanks everyone!
Since I'm taking Prometrium from O to AF orally, I wasn't sure what the difference was. I only take them at night so when I get dizzy I go to bed! If I had a choice, if I needed them during PG I would so much rather take them orally, but if I had to vaginally I would. Thanks!
