WIC - More Info?
Is anyone here on WIC or know more about the services they provide and how to get on the program? I hear it can be a great resource for low-income families and with me out of work, we can use all the help we can get. (I am in Suffolk county)
TIA!!

i think you have to go to your local Social Services office to sign up. My SIL was on it and they gave her free formula, milk, juice im not sure about the details.

Katie - My sister was on WIC. I'm sure she could answer some questions. I can ask her for you or you can try to get her on myspace. I know she used to get free milk and things like that.

Re: WIC - More Info?
you have to go to your local health dept. with a recent paystub to prove income.
The child can be on it as well as the mother if you are BF (or even supplementing w/ BM) or pregnant.
Infant gets: formula and after 6 mths infant cereal and certain juices.
Nursing moms get: milk, eggs, cereal, peanut butter, bags of dried beans, cheese, juice

Re: WIC - More Info?
I believe it is at the health department. I get it and live in Michigan...may be different with each state. I get juice, milk, eggs, cheese, cereal and beans...some people get peanut butter.
the guidelines for it are very relaxed. I was surprised we fell within the guidelines....go check it out, I am happy we get it.

Stupid question...
On this chart for WIC, the column on the left is for the number of people total in the household or just children??? Thanks!

I think it's the number of people applying.... You can apply for just the kids or you and the kids. DH is not eligible.

Re: WIC - More Info?
The rest of the stuff like Family Health Plus goes by family size. Wouldn't hurt to call and ask.

Re: WIC - More Info?
It's based on TOTAL number of people living in the house since the income they base it on has to support all those people.
We told them that my grandma was living in our house so that qualified us (after DH raise).
