Will credit cards ever take something off your credit report?

So my really crappy stuff from college has FINALLY aged off my credit report. Now i only use CCs in an emergency, but I have some stor cards.

I have in the past year occasionally gotten overwhelmed and forgotten to pay a card. I know, stupid.

So I have 2 cards that are showing late payments on my credit report.

Will they ever remove it at a customer's request, or do they have to report it accurately if you paid late?

I always paid it as soon as I realized and well over the minimum,

Any other tips for helping credit?

I just paid off one credit card, which I'm so happy for, and I'm getting a nice comission for last month so I'm thinking of just applying it all to knock out my store cards if only for the reason that I just have fewer cards to worry about remembering to pay (pathetic, I know)

for future help, can you setup automatic payments to just come out of your bank account when it's due?

If I remember correctly, it should come off after a year or two.

It NEVER hurts to call the CC company and either dispute the fact that you've made a late payment or two OR to say that you recently checked your credit....you see that they reported you as being late but you have been a good customer, always try to get your bills on time etc...and sometimes they will give you a courtesy "on time" update to the bureaus.

I used to be late here and there with payments when i was going through a tough financial time, but was fortunate to have a very nice representative on the phone who was able to help out.

I know that from researching creditboards.net, many people will dispute late marks with the bureaus themselves and sometimes they are changed, and sometimes they are verified. Can't hurt though.

You can try to fight it and they may take it off. DH just did this, he fought a payment he didn't even realize he had and they took it off completely, he just had to pay everything immediately over the phone.

You can also go to annualcreditreport.com and request a report through one of the 3 agencies through there and then dispute something on your report, but it would be fast if you called the credit card company first to see what they could do.
