Will hosp. Bill u for private room?
Im thinking about asking for one even though i know its not guaranteed im thinking i will feel more comfortable. Just curious if they will bill me or will i have to pay at the time of discharge.

Winthrop was $200.00 a night. I opted not to do it but I was lucky I didn't get a roommate until 11:00pm the night before I was leaving.

I delivered at Huntington Hosp and we had to pay upon discharge.

i was lucky enough to deliver at south nassau, they only have private rooms so there is no extra fee

I am delivering at Good Sam. I happened to be there last night and asked about private rooms. They said there is no extra charge.The only thing is there are only 3 private rooms.

ooh that's good to know. I thought we had to pay at discharge. Maybe DH will not be so stingy about it now

I am SO thankful that all the rooms in my hospital here in charlotte are private
if not, I would definitely pay for my own room

Columbia Presbyterian made me give them a credit card upon admittance to the hospital. They only charge you if a room is available. They don't bill.

North Shore Long Island Jewish consists of 15 hospitals. I think you have to be more specific as I believe each would have their own policy.

I delivered at LIJ-Lakeville Rd a month ago and was in a 4-person.
Honestly, I was really anxious about this prior to delivery. After it happened though----it was the furthest thing from my mind.
I was in and out so fast anyways, it really was NOT a big deal.
My room did not fill up until the last day anyways, when I was getting ready to be discharged.
You have a curtain that goes all away around for privacy and they are very liberal about visitors.
I was told at the tour that it's $700.00 a night on top of whatever your insurance pays.
I also don't think there are bathrooms in the private rooms and private rooms aren't a guarantee at LIJ anyways. From what I have heard, they try to reserve them for people who REALLY need them.
C-sections/complicated deliveries, or if your baby is in the NICU so you aren't around other moms who have their babies at their bedsides.
My advice as a BTDT mom is to save your $$$$$.
I went into L&D around 8PM on 12/29, out he came at 12:03 AM on 12/30, set up in room with one other roomie around 2AM, I was discharged well before noon on 12/31.
