Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
Just wondering who is getting a private hospital room after they deliver and how much it costs? If you aren't, how many people are typically in a room?

Re: Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
All the rooms in my hospital are private, but if they weren't I would pay extra for it.
I'm just such a private person to begin with and I can't sleep with the slightest distractions, so for me it would be worth it.

Re: Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
I plan to, my family is big and would disturb my neighbor. I want freedom and privacy and would not enjoy having a roommate.
Hopefully there is enough space to honor my request. Its worht the expense to me.

Re: Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!! Many hospitals are/have converted to private rooms for their maternity wards. I had one with my first and I can't imagine it any different. I remember my mom had to share a room when she had my kid sister...it was awful especially since her "roomie" was sad. Her baby was airlifted to the specialty hospital [the 2 hospitals had a thing going...1 of them delivered, the other handled hte mercy cases.]. so she sat there while we celebrated and sobbed with no baby to even look at! it was awful.

I think it is totolly worth it, if you can get it.
There was none available when I had Benji. Luckily, I had a very nice room-mate who actually checked out a day early, so I was alone for my last night there.
But you never know who you are gonna end up with.

I had one and thought it was worth it. I had to pay $220 a night for 2 nights.

I would get one. Fortunately Stony Brook has private rooms so that's one less think (oops I mean thing) I have to worry about.

not all them are private. I delivered my first there. There were only like 3 private rooms? Unless then changed it since then.

I took the tour a couple of months ago and was told they are all private rooms. You do share a bathroom though, which skeeves me out, but oh well.

Re: Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
I am no frugalist (is that a word?), but I am a bit cautious with my money. AFter delivery I was so exhausted I could sleep with anyone in the room, and besides that the nurses come in frequently to check on you, so there is no peaceful sleep. I did and would rather save the extra money to spend on baby or some spa treatment later.

Re: Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
I def regret not getting one. I think it's totally worth the extra money. Exp if you have a c-section and you have to be in there longer.
I got stuck with some awful people in my room

Re: Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
My plan was to get a private room if I ended up with a c-section. Well, I did end up with a c-section at around 8:30 at night, so the private room for the first night would not have paid (since I was in recovery until about 2 am). Then, when I was in my room I decided against the private room because my roommate and I were talking and it was nice to have the company. I am very talkative, and thankfully so was she. It was nice to have someone to talk to and I get bored by myself so I was glad that I decided against the private room.

They have 2 private rooms. They are given out on a first come basis and they cost $250 up front per night. Dh and I decided against it. I would only get it if there were better visiting hours associated with it because St. Charles is so strict. So for me it doesnt seem worth it.

Re: Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
I could not imagine sharing a hospital room ever! I guess all the hospitals out here are new because I have not been to one hospital that doesn't have all private rooms and open visiting hours. I also kept my DD with me 24/7 and honestly would not be able to deliver in a hospital that made me use a nursery. (sorry for the side note). Anyway to answer the question yes if I had to I would most certainly pay for a private room.

St Charles visiting hours are only from 7-8 pm for regular visitors...I think from 12-2 grandparents can come up. Dh can stay all day, but I don't *think* they'd let him spend the night.

Re: Do you think it's worth it to get a private room?
I had a private room after my first, which was 4 days for a c/s. Totally worth every penny I had to pay!
With my second, I was only there for 2 days, so I chose not to get one. I was really lucky and had no roommate so it was private anyway!
