My mom gets mail from religious orgs and they're asking her to protest it

I loved the book and can't wait to see the movie. Somehow, I never pictured Tom Hanks in the lead role. But we shall see.....

Re: Will you see the DaVinci Code Movie?
I haven't read the book, I think we have it somewhere. I want to see the movie to see what the fuss is about. I should really read the book so I can be more educated about it. Most of the people who oppose the book and/or the movie have never read it.

Yes, I want to see it. I read the book and it was well written. You have to take the movie with a Grain of Salt. One does not have to believe in the theories to enjoy the movie.

yeah.. i will see it. I read the book and did not like it. Just found it boring, nothing to do with religion. Just wanted to finish it because it was so "hot".

I liked the book, didn't love it, and cannot see Tom Hanks in the role. I will probably see it a few weeks after it opens once the hype dies down.

Re: Will you see the DaVinci Code Movie?
I am anxious to see it. The first time I started reading the book, I could not get into it at all. Then I started re-reading on my honeymoon and I couldn't put it down.

I agree...I was hoping for someone younger (or younger looking)....and more mysterious looking! Maybe Val Kilmer or someone!

Their argument is that it is sacreligious, and that although it "under the pretext of fiction" it is actually meant as an attack, and that it will cause younger people especially to turn away from the faith because the book/movie is exposing the faith as false and corrupt.
ETA: I haven't read it, but I think they have a right to publich it and make a movie and the people who want to protest it have that right too. They have a right to keep their $8.50 in their pockets when the movie rolls out. My mom got similar letters when Corpus Christi and The Most Fabulous Story Everyt old cmae out, I haven;t read "fabulous" but Corpus is a really good play, and I don't find it offensive at all, as a catholic. You have to look at what it's trying to say and then evaluate for yourself if it's valid or invalid.

I can't wait! I read the book and loved it. I want to see it the weekend it premieres before people start talking crap about it so I can make my own judgements.

thats the best and worst thing about this country- people can Protest anything they want. i just think they look silly when theyre protesting FICTIONAL movies. i think there are much more valid causes in this world that could use some attention, but thats JMO.

I'm with you. I don't think I would ever protest a book or a movie.

Re: Will you see the DaVinci Code Movie?
I think it's funny that there's such a big to do about the book/movie.
It's a work of fiction. Did religous groups protest "Raiders of The Lost Ark", because they thought that the Nazis may have been trying to find the ark and use it to their advantage?
I am looking forward to the movie (it will probably be one of the few that we'll see in a theatre this year), but I don't think it'll be as good as the book.

Re: Will you see the DaVinci Code Movie?
I think people protesting a movie is hysterical. Its called freedom of speech. If you dont like it, move to another country or simply turn around and walk away.
People have choices, thank god and protesting IMO is a waste of precious time..
It is just that Fiction...and he supports and provides the details of where he got the information he claims to be truth in his books for those who wonder to go ahead and look it up and research it themselves...
I thought the book was good, it really caused me to question things, even though I knew it was fiction, and thats what a good book does. Blurs the reality.

Re: Will you see the DaVinci Code Movie?
Well, they have the right to protest the movie, as much as they have the right to make the movie.
The best protest is to just keep your $8.50 in your pocket.
