Williston Park?
How is Williston Park as an area to possibly buy a home? There are two school districts there, Herricks & Mineola. How are they? The house we are looking at is in Mineola SD but I would welcome comments on the area in general also.

Re: Williston Park?
Great location - Herricks had a great rep, Mineola few notches down. I've heard more mixed/negative comments than positive ones. I believe the SD has more issues because of the high rental population in Mineola.

Re: Williston Park?
I haven't heard great things about Mineola--it's not horrible from what I could tell, but you are better off buying a home in the Herricks district. The test scores tend to be lower for Mineola, and the classes larger.
We looked in Williston Park a little, what killed it for us was the train line--if you work in Manhattan it stinks. Though Mineola isn't far, you could possibly drive there.

Re: Williston Park?
I grew up in Williston Park but on the Mineola SD side. I lived in the college section (all the streets are named after colleges). WP is a great place to live. Shopping on Willis & Hillside Ave is great, there are still lots of young families with children. St. Aidans church is amazing and the village library is cute. There is a really nice village pool too. The Mineola SD, is not HORRIBLE, but it's not great either. Granted, I graduated HS in 98 so I don't know exactly what it is like now but I have heard from friends that still live there that it hasn't gotten any better since I graduated. I think that has to do more with the way the town of Mineola has gone - tons more peopel, lots of rental properties etc. Herricks is definetely a much better sd.

Re: Williston Park?
i grew up in roslyn heights - 2 towns (or 5 minutes) away. WP is nice, but if you're looking for a fancy town, this is not it, IMO.
i've heard herricks schools are better than mineola.

Re: Williston Park?
I happen to love Williston Park. The Herricks schools are very highly rated. Mineola not so much.
The homes are not cheap and are small for the most part but they have a lot of charm.

I agree, the homes are quite nice in WIlliston Park. And some are really $$$$.
Sorry, but I know nothing about the schools, except that Mineola definitely has a LOT of rentals, I work there.

Re: Williston Park?
Williston Park is a great town! I grew up there and my parents still live there. It is really central to wherever you need to go. I didn't use the East Williston train station that much when I wanted to go into the city but the Mineola station is only a couple of minutes away and it has a better schedule. There are a bunch of great restaurants in the town, TR's, River Bay, there's a sushi place on Willis Ave. (can't think of the name), Positano's in the H-Mart parking lot has GREAT Italian food! St. Aidan's is a wonderful church, has a great atmosphere and very friendly. I didn't experience the school districts growing up. I lived in the Herricks section but I went to private school. Two of my cousins went to Mineola and never complained and another cousin went to Herricks and never complained either! So I can't help you on the part. FM me if you have any questions about the town

thanks for mentioning the library!!! I just started as their new director!!!
They're having a street fair on 9/16 from 11-5. Stop by and have a look around. All the businesses will be open and I'm sure there'll be food.
I don't know a lot yet about the different school districts, but good luck whatever you decide!!

Re: Williston Park?
Herricks is a better school district than Mineola. I have a friend who bought a house in Mineola on the Mineola and East Williston border and her kids go to East Williston schools which are better than Mineola. You might want to ask your real estate agent.
