Wind-resistant patio umbrella? Other shade ideas?

We have a rooftop deck and have been through2 big umbrellas in the past 4 months. The deck is so high up that the wind can get pretty powerful. Each umbrella snapped under the pressure. (One was a "straight up" umbrella and one was a tilting umbrella).

The other problem is that it gets terrible hot and sunny up there, so we need shade.

Is there such a thing as a wind-resistant umbrella? Can you think of something else that might provide shade?
