Window Treatment Ideas

I have high, wide windows in the back of the house - which I love b/c while they let light in, no one can see in Chat Icon

The problem is, they let light in -a lot- and two of these rooms are bedrooms.

Each window -from wood frame to wood frame- measures 45 1/4" W x 22" H.

What kind of window treatment would you put on these? I don't want anything bulky or frilly or longer than the window.

Ideas?!

Re: Window Treatment Ideas

I like them but feel that they may take up half the window when they're open (up). I guess I should visit some stores with my measuring tape...

We have windows like those in the bedrooms, I hate them, we are replacing them with bigger windows shortly. I'm 5'5" and have to stand on my tiptoes to see out, which annoys me.

Anyhow, we have regular blinds and then just valances on them. I didn't like how curtains looked since they were so much longer than the window.

Re: Window Treatment Ideas

What about something like this? You can hang the rod higher than the frame and pull the curtains back whenever you want

Re: Window Treatment Ideas

I know lulu - me too! LOL

Cathy - My chin rests on the bottom of the window sill. I love that I can look outside, naked Chat Icon

Hmmm...that could work Marlo. (Your room came out beautiful, btw)

I haven't put window treatments up anywhere - I'm honestly not a huge fan of them - I like the open and airy feeling without them. But my guests have a hard time sleeping past the crack of dawn Chat Icon

Have you come up with any ideas? I really like the windows - I seem to be the only one Chat Icon

Marlo: Ahhh - I thought I saw that room somewhere, I just assumed it was on here!

Re: Window Treatment Ideas

I hate the windows and want to change them eventually (if we stay here)

We don't have back neighbors so privacy isn't the issue

In the guest room I put up sheer soft shades

the office has sheer longer curtains, but we never close them

and the bedroom has paper shades Chat Icon

We have neighbors but my backyard is lined in 30'+ hemlocks so no one can see in even if I pranced around the yard naked. LOL

Not sure why I'm so attached to these windows...maybe I should replace them when we replace the front windows (which are non-casements).

I might try out a sheer shade - I want something, that when open, doesn't take up half the window.

okay there are no windows on this site that match yours, however, they have some really nice things, and you can get a free design consult! I think I am going to call them this weekend!!!!

Re: Window Treatment Ideas

I have a window like that and I am always changing my mind about treatments. I think I am going to hang whatever I decide (Roman shade, shortish panels, or valance) close to the ceiling so that it looks like the window is taller. I think this could work well with a Roman shade or valance.

I would do blinds and if you want add color or soften the look a bi do a high valance or a nice decorative cornice across both windows. What is the room decor going to be?

Re: Window Treatment Ideas

I would do some kind of roman shade however I would mount it close to the ceiling and when open have the bottom not go higher than the top of the window. This will create the illusion of a larger window. I am not sure how the room is decorated or the purpose of the room but I am thinking some sort of organic material.
