wine?

I'm 38 weeks and 6 days with my second baby.

even though I've been through this before I'm feeling very nervous and anxious the last few days. My mom keeps telling me to put my feet up and have a glass of wine.

I have been very laid back about food restrictions this whole pregnancy, but I haven't had alcohol. that's the one rule I strictly follow.

what do you think about having a glass of red wine at this point?

I was raised in a very European family - a glass of wine a couple times a week is completely normal and healthy by their standards. I, too, honesty feel that a glass of red is fine - and plan on letting myself indulge in one glass on the days I desire once I hit my 2nd trimester. You have to go with what makes you comfortable, though - this is a bit of a contentious issue, for sure. I can say that - based upon the informal surveys I have conducted among friends and family - most of those I know that have children had some wine occasionally once they got through that 1st tri.

Def just go with your gut on this one, though - if the wine makes you uncomfortable in any way - or feel guilty in any way - its not worth it.

I would never be comfortable having a whole glass but I am definitely a light weight. With my first, I had a few sips of red wine at almost 42 weeks pregnant and I finally went into labor that night. I wouldn't mind trying that a little sooner this time around!

Def a personal decision. I didn't have any with my first; and none with this one either. My friend mentioned to me some of the MOm's she knew that did have a few glasses of wine here and there had colicky babies. Not sure if there's any truth to that or not. For me I just know I can wait until the baby comes. Even then still restricting wine since I breastfeed

I've had sips here and there of wine and beer. I haven't/won't have a full glass, but when DH has a glass of beer that I like, I'll have a sip or two, just enough for the taste. It's entirely a personal choice, as this is one of the biggest controversies I've seen with regards to pregnancy limitations. The research really isn't clear, and from what I've read (and I've done a lot of reading) the amount of alcohol you need to drink in order to cause FAS is quite a lot, truthfully. BUT, because they can't specifically say HOW MUCH, they say stay away.

Thanks for the responses. Even though I know it would be fine, the fact that I'm questioning it means its just not worth it.

I'll just suffer in my discomfort until the baby finally arrives. It could be any day now, or at least I'm hoping.

I won't touch alcohol being pregnant. I know it's such a slim chance that anything would happen, but I feel like if I do, and something is wrong, whether the alcohol caused it or not I would feel incredibly guilty.

my ob told me that the amount of alcohol was negligible and would never enter the placenta. His wife had a glass of wine here or there pregnant. To tell you the truth I only ever really had a few sips bc it gave me heartburn but a little wine or beer is fine IMO but you have to do what you are comfortable with.

Re: wine?

Maybe have half a glass as a compromise if you're worried but it's something you'd enjoy. I'm not much of an alcohol drinker even when not pg so I don't have the desire but if I did, I don't think a few sips would really hurt.

I know at least two people who were told by their doctors when pregnant to have a glass a week for medical reasons.

My medical professionals cleared it knowing I wouldn't go overboard. I had a half glass here and there with my 2 and 3rd and they are totally fine. I had a lot of braxton hicks / irritable uterus with my 3rd and it really helped to calm it.

Re: wine?

Personally, I wouldn't touch it during my first and second trimester, but if I were in your position I would definitely have a glass. My SIL had a glass of wine te day she went into labor and swears that's what got things moving. Do whatever you're comfortable with.

This. My MFM told me I could have a glass of red wine once a week to reduce anxiety after dad's passing. I'm 30 weeks though. She also specified red, but I'm not sure why.
I haven't done it, but I think I may one day.

Red wine has a lot of health benefits that white doesn't have. They suggest red for a lot of things.

While many people do it, I would never.

The brain develops the most in the 3rd trimester, so that's specifically when I wouldn't drink wine, among other reasons. You've made it this far, you can make it another few weeks IMO.

I had a full glass here and there. Especially at the end like you are.
And my DD was and is still perfect.
I see no issue with it
