Wine
I know people have different thoughts about this but for you ladies that enjoy a glass here and there I have a question for you. I have a wedding weekend coming up and I'll be having a glass. The wedding is on Sunday, so you think having a glass at the rehearsal dinner on Friday too is pushing it? How often do you have a drink?

I don't think so but I'm all about doing things in moderation.
you can always do a half glass if it makes you feel better.

Re: Wine
Maybe ask for a white wine spritzer if you're concerned. That way you have a full glass in front of you, but it's only partly full of wine.
But to answer your question, no, I don't think 2 glasses of wine in one weekend is a problem if you really want to. I just wouldn't make a habit of it.

Lucky for me there will be no judgements. No one knows I'm pregnant. I've been waiting until after the wedding to tell so that way the bride doesn't think I'm stealing her thunder.

Re: Wine
This is my first but I know one or two glasses will not harm the baby. However, psychologically I will beat myself up so I am just not going there.
Whoops - sorry. Edited to add that I just read this is a question for ladies who do drink from time to time. Interesting to read the perspectives anyhow!

How many weeks are you? I had wine throughout my pregnancy (in moderation aka special occasions). During the 1st trimester it's a HUGE no no as that is when the baby is developing the most (brain, spine, etc). If you are in the second trimester, enjoy!!!!

Who cares about what other people think? It's your baby and your choice. I haven't had any wine but I've had a beer every now and then. It's the summer and it's the hardest time to not be drinking. Everything in moderation so enjoy yourself!

Yep. Funny story on that. When I was pregnant I used to go out to lunch and happy hour with co workers a lot and we were regulars at a local Applebee's. We'd sit at the bar and eat, and they'd drink and finally I got sick of water and soda. So I noticed they had O'Doul's. I would have one on occasion just to have something different and feel like a 'big girl' again! LOL. It was nice to have the taste of beer again. So anyway, I used to pour it in a glass and it would look like I was drinking a real beer. This pregnant lady sitting at bar drinking a beer. I'd get a few looks but whatever. I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong so who cares what people think?
One of the waitress who was promoted to bartender and became friendly with me after DD was born told me that she would always see me drinking a "beer" while she was waitressing and couldn't believe it. She even finally made a comment to the bartender and he told her it was O'Douls.
So people are always going to judge. Bottom line, do what YOU feel comfortable with.
And as an aside- I drank a LOT before I knew I was pregnant. Like a LOT. Like drunk on more than one occasion. I confessed to my DR on the first visit and he was totally nonchalant about it- saying it was fine. So I said, "no, you don't seem to understand. I mean I drank A LOT!" He laughed and said again- it's fine. Now that you know you are pregnant don't do that anymore, but I assure you that your baby is fine. And he was right.

Re: Wine
I drank alcohol before I really knew I was pregnant. It's fine in those early stages since the baby isn't even connected to your bloodstream yet until 5-6wks along. Once you're connected though, I wouldn't touch even a sip in first trimester. Too much is developing in that stage - facial features, the central nervous system, eyes, heart, limbs, teeth, ears and private parts. It's just not worth even the tiniest amount at that point. However, after that first trimester I've heard that a glass of wine a day even is fine. Moderate drinking (meaning no more than one or two units of alcohol, no more than once or twice a week) does no harm to a child's development. So if you're far enough along, I don't think having a little wine at the rehearsal and the wedding is a problem. It's the whole getting drunk thing and going for the hard stuff that is dangerous and can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Re: Wine
I realize that this is a to each their own kind of thing but for me, once I knew i was pregnant I didnt think it was worth the risk IMO.. With my DS we werent trying... and i actually did have a few beers before I found out I was pregnant. This time with DD we were trying and I chose not to drink in the 2ww. The problem with drinking alcohol in pregnancy is that nobody knows what level is safe, at any time for any pregnant woman..

Agreed. I'd be open to a glass, but after the 1st trimester is over and done.

The third trimester is actually when the brain develops the most. There's no proof that anytime is actually safe. I know many people do drink during pregnancy, and that's fine for them. I just know for me, if G-d forbid anything went wrong, I wouldn't want to wonder - what if I didn't have that glass of wine? IMO, it's just not worth the risk.

Re: Wine
The AAP says no amount of alcohol is ok during any point in pregnancy. I didn't realize the AAP had a strong stance in this, it's also considered a class C drug. AAP

So here's the thing with that. Of course if you drink a lot and frequently it will have bad effects.
But one glass of wine or two- in your WHOLE pregnancy, I can't see that doing very much harm.
The reason they tell you NO alcohol at all, is because if they tell you- in moderation it's ok, everyone's idea of moderation is different. For some people ,one glass of wine every night is moderation! For some, it would be ok I'll stop the hard booze, but stick with beer. And so forth
So it is better and safer for them to give it the blanket NO. None at all.
Just like the thing with children's cold meds awhile back- the whole issue, and the reason why they now have to say, NO cold meds at all until 4 years old is because parents were overdosing their kids by accident. Some people didn't know how to read a label, a measuring cup or follow directions. So while cold meds, in the right dose, were always safe for kids, they ended up saying NONE at all until they are older. Because it was easier and safer that way to control it.
Same with ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is actually ok in pregnancy but not in the 3rd tri. But they tell you none at all so you don't accidentally keep taking it in the 3rd trimester. It's just easier and safer to make it on the NO list so there is no confusion
All the studies of the ill effects of alcohol on fetuses is in babies who mother's drank more than a glass of wine once or twice, i can assure you

Re: Wine
That survey talks about women who have one alcoholic drink a DAY. Like EVERY SINGLE DAY. It doesn't really address someone who might indulge in one glass of red wine at a wedding, etc.

Wine
I had a half a glass at a wedding recently and started to feel the effects. Maybe it was because I hadn't drank in a few months or because I never had a good tolerance to begin with but I was feeling tipsy and it scared the crap out of me. I think most people are fine to have a glass or so but for me, it just doesn't work.

=I had a glass here and there and I have a perfectly happy and healthy 7 month old. To me, might be safer than some of the prepackaged poison our government allows to be called food.
What you consume Friday will be out of your system by Sunday. =If your worried have club soda with a splash of wine.
