WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
so let me get this right?
the only time the baby is out in the room is 9am-6pm.... but the only people who can come to see her while she's OUT is grandparents?
so my sister and my SIL will never be able to hold her until she's home?
what about after my c-section... can they see her then?
that really stinks...

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
When I had my DD she was with me in the room from around 7am to 7:30pm. And grandparents and the babys siblings can visit from 2-4, and the general visitng was at 8pm (I think) when all the babies are in the nursery.
However the day after she was born my sister plus BIL and SIL all came at 2 and were allowed in as long as we didnt disturb anyone, so it is possible as long as you dont overcrowd the room and make too much noise.

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
ETA: After my c/s DH brought her into the waiting room in a closed bassinet for everyone to see and then DH and the baby came back to the recovery room with me. My c/s was very late (11pm) at night so everyone had to go home after that and were not allowed onto the main floor.

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
Don't know about Winthrop, but St. Charles is similar. Hubby can be there 10am-10pm, baby's grandparents can be there 2-4pm, and general visiting hour is 7-8pm. Babies are all in the nursery during the 7-8pm visiting hour, for security & germ reasons, as a nurse has explained to me, but are with you as much as you want besides for that one hour, so yes, the grandparents can hold them during their visiting hours.
I find the 'locked-up' thing weird too, but I'm glad it's not just my hospital that does this. It does make sense in the end, I guess, because if you have a roomate, others can be around your baby too, and the health & security thing comes more into play.

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
Yes..you never know whether people are bringing it germs whether they know it or not. They day goes so quickly too and you are exhausted and have a million people calling you! Then the annoying other people's visitors! I wished that I could have had my friends or family visit more during the day but I understand that the safety and health of the baby were more important!
I also had my BIL sneak in and he walked in on my BF. I was wondering how the heck he got in there!

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
I HATE winthrop for this reason. But I know some people like it, so I guess its personal preference.
Yes, when my SIL had her baby I tried a few times to "get in " to see the baby before 6:30 and of course two times they took the baby early.
She even told them we were from out of state and leaving and she wanted us to hold the baby before we left and they REFUSED...so its very strict there.
Unless you manage to get someone in thats not during "visiting hours"...then like someone said, they are ok with it if its quiet etc....

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
Yes from what I have heard Winthrop has a very strict visiting hour policy and the only people that can see the baby not in the nursery are the grandparents from 2-4 and your DH. I think I am gonna tell my sister to come during the grandparents visiting time and hopefully she will get in and can at least hold the baby for a little while.

Not True...
My cousins baby was born in Feb....we all got to hold her...there was like 8 people in the waiting room, they brought us all in together to the Labor Suite and let us stay about 30 minutes.....

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
When I was in Winthrop in July, my roommates constantly got visitors all day long. They did not limit anyone during the grandparents visiting time. One roommate actually had seveal visiitors at 11:00 inthe morning!

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
According to the orientation we had and hospital rules:
- dads: 9am-10pm - GP and siblings: 2-4pm - Visitors and sibllings: 6:30-8pm (all babies are in nursery)

I had my son at Winthrop. They are not that strict. My sister and her two kids snuck in no problem. She told them that her girls were his sisters.

Did they tell you how much a private room is at Winthrop each night?

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
I just had my DD there 2 weeks ago. They are not that strict about visiting hours during the day, they don't even look to see who is in the room. At night they do kick everyone out by 8:15 the latest.
As for the private room, my only advice is to think about whether you will be lonely during the hours when no one is there. Although my roomate was somewhat annoying at times, I found it comforting to have someone to talk to later on at night or early in the morning, especially someone who was also a new mother and having some of the same feelings and fears I was.

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
I delivered at Winthrop 2 weeks ago. I had a private room because my baby was in the NICU, so I didn' have the issue with people coming to visit him.
However, they let anyone up during the grandparents visiting. My sister, SIL, mom, aunt etc. all came during that time.
If you deliver naturally they let the family into the labor/delivery suite after the baby is born. For me, my family was allowed to come in but the baby had already gone to the NICU so they just got to see me. If you have a section they bring the baby through the waiting room so the family can see but they can't all hold him/her. (I know, b/c I talked about it with my L&D nurse because I never expected my baby to have to go the NICU and I wanted to know what would happen after he was born)

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?
While I understand that some people love for their family members to "sneak" in, it does actually bother me. I don't think it's fair to the person next to you.
I had to share a room once at LIJ (in a the regular part of the hospital) and I hated it. You cannot rest. She snored all night, her family came in and out all the time. I wanted to rest from a bunch of tests that went on-going for 3 days and was looking forward to some sleep when back in my room.
That's why I really hope I can get a private room.
I plan on breastfeeding so I won't have much sleep... the last think I need is a bunch of strangers talking all afternoon to the roomate.
