WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?

so let me get this right?

the only time the baby is out in the room is 9am-6pm.... but the only people who can come to see her while she's OUT is grandparents?

so my sister and my SIL will never be able to hold her until she's home?

what about after my c-section... can they see her then?

that really stinks...... (for them)Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?

i had a normal delivery but they allowed whoever i had in the waiting room to come into the delivery room to hold her right after she was born. but as soon as u go up the maternity floor - no one can other than the grandparents.

eta - i had about 6 people and they allowed them all in at one time. it was really nice and very emotional for everyone.

Yes..that is vistiing hours. BUT. I had a few people who were there after I delivered in the labor room and they got to hold the baby. I had a few friends too. As long is they are quiet and it is not busy.
I actually liked the quiet time during the day because I was exhausted and breastfeeding often.

It may be different after a C-section.

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?

Only my DH and my parents were there during the day, but my brother would have come if he wasn't working. The woman sharing my room had anyone and everyone she knew there and my DH was really pizzed because I was BF'ing and I didn't get any sleep at all. I thought it was really rude of her and they were really loud. There were about 10 people there the entire family visiting hours. BUT...I am sure that it wouldn't be a problem for your sister to come. Chat Icon

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?

That is right, but the baby was with me ALL day except during the late visiting hours which was 6-8, then I got him back and they took him to the nursery at 10.

I liked it that way honestly, I had a c-section and was glad that there were limitations on the visiting policy.

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?

Both my sisters and my parents were in the waiting room and were allowed to come in to visit me and the baby once I was out of recovery and in my room.

One of my sisters was in town for the week after I gave birth, she drove my parents to the hospital everyday that I was there and NO ONE gave her a problem or tried to stop her from coming in.

I think if it's one person (adult), they don't really give you a hard time.

I am so glad I don't live in NY anymore. Not to make you any more upset than you are but I can't imagine not having my baby with me 24/7. Hospitals here are very different. Visiting hours were unlimited. My mom could have come at 1am after the birth if she wanted and DD was with us the entire time, she wasn't in the nursery for even a second.
I guess I just don't understand the logic behind all the rules. Chat Icon

I felt the same way. Before I had DS I was a little annoyed but then I was glad that he wasn't getting passed around like a hot potato. My mom, sister and DS godfather were waiting for me while I delivered and they allowed them in the room after I gave birth and they cleaned me up.

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?

I agree with and had the same experience as Michael's Mommy, minus the c-section. I didn't want visitors all day and all night and I'm a germophobe, so I couldn't imagine every visitor I had breathing on my brand new baby.

I'd rather have my good ol' New York experience than this. Each to his own, but unlimited visitation (outside of my DH) would have been very upsetting for me.

I had both my kids there. I actually liked the way the visiting hours were. We did have my BIL come with his 3 kids during the afternoon grandparents visiting hours because they were coming from out of town and the evening hours were not good for them. No one said anything. But to be honest, with a baby only hours or days old, you will not want a million people in the room, especially if you have a roommate who has visitors too at the same time.

Re: WINTHROP?? visiting hour question?

Those are the "rules" BUT they don't enforce them. I had my sisters visit during "grandparent" hours and no one said anything.

They also let everyone in the delivery room a few minutes after she was born to see her (my parents, sisters, and in-laws).
