Wintrop or North Shore Manhasset???
I am not pregnant but I am looking for a new gynecologist (mine would have me wait for over 2 hours when I had an appointment)
I think it's probably important to see which hospital the new one is affiliated with. My entire family has delivered at Manhasset so that's my first choice but I can't seem to find a ob/gyn that delivers there.
Any recommendations in the nassau area would be HUGE - I have been obsessing over this for a week now.
And also do you think there is a difference in either hospital or are they both good?

I think there is a thread on the TTC board about OBGYN's affiliated with NSUH.. My group is.. I LOVE THEM.. Prohealth Care.. I see Dr. Kraft but all the doctors there are excellent. They are in Lake Success.

I would personally say North Shore. I had such a good experience delivering my daughter there 7/05. The nurses were great, and I love my doctor. FM if you want her #.

Re: Wintrop or North Shore Manhasset???
My impression from friends that have delivered there:
North Shore of Manhasset - newer hospital, nicer wing, calmer atmosphere
Winthrop - one of the best NICUs. More crowded. Parking is a PITA for visitors.

I would agree.... I delivered at Winthrop 2 years ago, and will again very shortly, I have no idea what's changed. There is a parking garage at Winthrop that I use and tell all the visitors to use, that way your not patrolling the street looking for a spot.

Re: Wintrop or North Shore Manhasset???
THanks! I know that both are good hospitals but the thing I like about Manhasset is that they let you keep the baby in the room with you during visiting hours. I know that reason may sound silly but I know that when I go to the hospital to see the babies I love that.
At the end of the day if I find I doctor that belongs to Winthrop I would be very happy with that.
And being that I'm not even preggo yet I'm really thinking far in advance.

Thank you for posting this!!!! I am going through a similar situation right now and have been thinking of posting a poll on Parenting between Winthrop and NSUH. My current gyno, who I adore, delivers at Winthrop. But he's much older and I keep waiting for him to tell me he's retiring every time I go in there. And, I have this 'thing' that I should be at NSUH but now I hear Winthrop is great too.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble, I'm just so happy to see someone else asking this question. Seems like NSUH might be the winner here.
Any more thoughts ladies??
(ETS: We're not TTC yet either, just trying to think in advance as well. I want to be comfortable with my gyno when I become pregnant so I'd like to make the switch in the somewhat near future.)

Re: Wintrop or North Shore Manhasset???
Thank you all for responding! I have lots of phone calls to make today.
One other thing that I like about Manhasset is that there are passes that are given to guests when they come so they limit the people in the room at a time. When I was at Winthrop the other night people just came and went without any security and there was a MOB SCENE in there. It looked like a club I swear. You couldn't get close to the baby window if you tried.
In the grand scheme of things the things that I like about Manhasset aren't that big of a deal but being that I am so familiar with it (I think my family has had like 8 babies there or something) I would like to be there if I could.
Thanks again everyone!

My doctor is in Great Neck on the corner of Northern and Lakeville. Dr. Bergman and Dr. Marchbein. They deliver at NSUH Manhasset and are fabulous!

Thanks for mentioning Dr. Marchbein is a Mohel Hillary. We have one in mind but if he isn't available it is nice to have others that are recommended.

Manhasset & LIJ have level 4 NICUs...the best. My friend had a preemie there.

Re: Wintrop or North Shore Manhasset???
I delivered at Winthrop and was very pleased with everything. When I first found out that they don't allow the babies out durning visiting hours I was a little disappointed but after having my son I was happy because I didnt want him exposed to so many people in the beginning, also the visiting hours kinda stink for the vistors but I think for the moms & dads its great because you are tired by the time all your vistors leave.

Re: Wintrop or North Shore Manhasset???
What I love about Winthrop is that you will at the most have only one other person in the room with you....at North Shore you can have up to four.
While Winthrop can be crowded at visiting time I didn't like the fact that at North Shore with the passes you had to wait around for someone to come out in order to visit. Twice when I went to visit a friend I was there 2 minutes when family of the patient showed up and I had to give up my pass.
