Wipes
My pediatrician says that I should not use wipes on my son. This is her theory. I have been using sterile cotton balls and water to wipe him, but I feel like that is such a pain. Does anyone else not use regular wipes as per the pediatrician?

Re: Wipes
I didn't use regular wipes until my baby was 8 months old because I am neurotic. My pediatrician told me I could use wipes when my baby was like a month old. I used viva paper towels and water... and it was a pain, but I feared change and just kept repeating what I did in the hospital since she had never gotten any diaper rash.

Re: Wipes
I never heard of this but I guess you also need to use your instincts on this. Wipes are fine, I use the non alcohol ones.

Re: Wipes
I used wipes since she was about 3 weeks old I just made sure they were the unscented kind. I still don't buy her scented ones because I have horribly sensitive skin and I was worried that she might too.

Re: Wipes
We used wipes since we got home from the hospital. We used newborn wipes unitl she was about 2 months old and then I've just used regular ones since. She hasn't had a diaper rash except when someone else watches her and doesn't change her as quickly as I do.
I also use them for quick washes of her face and hands during the day.

Re: Wipes
I only used the washcloth and water thing for a few weeks and then switched over- I could not imagine not using wipes though nor have I heard of doing that once they are a few weeks old.

Re: Wipes
The hospital nurses told us to use the paper towels and water for the first month or so because the wipes can be harsh on the baby's skin. We started using unscented wipes for Newborns when he was about a month old, and he is 19 months old today and has never had a rash of any kind!

Re: Wipes
I have heard this before. I've used all different wipes and now I use desitin because she did start to get a red bottom. Nothing too bad but i keep her bum covered now to make sure it never gets any worse.

Re: Wipes
My pediatrician also told me not to use wipes until after 6 weeks. So in the beginning I used wet paper towels also and as soon as I got the okay I happily switched to wipes (I use the Huggies Natural Care). I can't imagine using cotton balls to clean up newborn poop though, it must take forever!!

Re: Wipes
If your baby does not have any allergic reactions, use the wipes. They are easier and quick and I could not imagine using a cotton ball to clean up after a hearty poop!

Re: Wipes
I've used wipes since I came home from hospital. If your child has sensitive skin then I can understand but they also make wipes for sensitive skin. Follow your instinct though

Re: Wipes
2 of my friends told me this. But when I asked at the hospital they told me wipes were okay as long as they're unscented and have no alcohol. We use Pamper Sensitive and I always put vaseline on his butt and he's been fine.

when my son was in the hospital they used wet gauze pads on him...it might be easier than wetting cotten balls.
