with all the 9/11 posts it made me wonder.. any wtc survivors on here
I'm sure there has to be some people who wre in the wtc that day. . Anyone who does? Care to share you story of you are up to it?
i worked a few blocks a way but i dont consider myself a survivor of the attcaks. i worked for the federal reserve bank and i worked across the street from the main building on maiden lane. we were told to go to the main building of tha bank which has levels way below ground. We were not on those floors though we were upstaoirs and as we were about to go downstairs the building collapsed and everyting like the windows went dark and all. i was always in contact with my family unitl about 2 when they finally said to go home. they felt we were safrer in the building than outside and then finally they decided to tell us to leave. it was scary but i dont know if i am a survivor . i guess the way i look at it is so many people were closer to the wtc and had much more devastaing experienes that i dont but i guess you could in a way

I was suppose to be in the towers that morning to pick up keys to the SVP's office but that morning I was running late. I saw the second plane hit while on the M train. I ran to my office on Wall St., made 2 very important phone calls and was told by management we have been evacuated go home. So I did. I got on the last train out of the city and headed home. Watched everything from the M train

I worked accross the street, at 99 Church Street. The windows in my building were completely shattered, dust, we were in the basement until it was safe to leave. I consider myself a survivor. I think if you had to run away from balls of fire that day, you're a survivor.

My heart goes out to everyone affected....you are ALL survivors.
My friend's sister was in the WTC. She was on the phone with her brother-in-law (my friend) the whole time - until he lost her. She perished. It is awful.

Re: with all the 9/11 posts it made me wonder.. any wtc survivors on here
I was not in the building that day, but my aunt Abby was. Sadly she was not a survivor.
I guess you could say that my family as a unit are survivors. Having to deal with her loss was the toughest thing we've had to do ever. My mom still cries at her birthday, christmas, as of couse, the 11th of September. My aunt was the baby of the group, and I think that's what's the toughest part of this...they couldn't protect her.
Two weeks ago her eldest, my cousin had a baby girl. She would have been a grandma for the first time. She would have also had a sh!t fit because, although she would have turned 51 this year, this lady never looked a day over 30 (but to ask her, 29). She would be tickled pink to know that little Mariah Abigail has her chin, her nose and of course her beautiful smile.
We miss you Abby.
God bless those who survived. Life is precious, and always tell your family how much you love them. You never know when it will be the last time.

Re: with all the 9/11 posts it made me wonder.. any wtc survivors on here
Suzy, I'm so sorry for your loss.
I'll never forget that moment - it was my first week away at college - the first time I've ever been without my parents. My suitemate and I never had a single thing in common - she's the hippie girl that makes her own blankets and walks around barefoot, and I'm the LI girl with slight OCD - but that day, we hugged and cried together like we'd been friends for years.
My Dad used to travel LI and NYC for work (sales), and I just had this terrible gut feeling once I saw the news...I knew he was there. I tried to reach his cell, but of course, all circuits were busy.
I don't consider my Dad a survivor, but he is ONE LUCKY MAN. He had dealings in the WTC that morning - he left home very early to get there and beat the traffic. He dropped off his paperwork and had his meeting and was on his way back east around 8:30am. He saw plane #1 hit in his rearview mirror. He said he just pulled over with everyone else on the road and stared in silence with his jaw hanging.
My suitemate's Dad works in the courthouse right there...he usually arrives at work at 8:30am (WTC subway stop). Like me, she also couldn't reach either of her parents for hours, so she was a wreck. She later found out that her Dad couldn't find his monthly MetroNorth pass that morning and missed his usual train. He ended up taking the next train, and by the time he reached Grand Central, he had heard the terrible news and got on the next train home.
My Aunt's brother escaped from the 80somthingth floor of tower 1. He wandered the streets for 20 hours before contacting his wife.
I get goosebumps just thinking about these stories. I saw a documentary on A&E the other night called "I missed Flight 93". It was an incredible documentary, all about the stories of passengers that were scheduled to be on that flight, but for 1 reason or another, couldn't make it, and they were saved. One man was getting his daughter to her 2nd week of kindergarten...one woman was up late talking to her family the night before, and didn't wake early enough to make the flight. Amazing stories.
Sorry so long...I can ponder these things for hours.
eta: I will NEVER EVER forget that morning and the girl I shared it with. We couldn't have been more different, I mean, we never agreed on a THING, but that morning, it didn't matter. We put aside all the petty crap that we had been arguing about for the past week, and just were THERE for each other. This is the positivity I see in 9/11. People reached out to people in need. There's no reason we can't act this way EVERY DAY.

Re: with all the 9/11 posts it made me wonder.. any wtc survivors on here
All my blessings are with the families who lost someone, on that day I was fortunate to not have ne one I'm my family there, my BIL just started to work as a Suffolk county k9 Officer I think the week b4, he was there after for weeks searching for remains. I give a blessing to to all the ones who helped at that time of need I never saw so many people come together for eachother, I belive that was a miracle. I was at WBLI the night and next day helping to load trucks to be sent to NYC to help the people there.
Do you remember where you were at the moment yo found out?

Re: with all the 9/11 posts it made me wonder.. any wtc survivors on here
luckily, i dont know first hand of anyone that was in WTC.......
BUT, i got pulled out of school early (i was a jr or sr in HS).... my mom and my little bros and sisters were waiting for me....
i was scared somethign bad happened to my dad, but it turned out my mom just wanted us all together----- my dad is a volunteer Fire Fighter and they were scheduling him to go in to help...... alas they later said nevermind...
but my neighbor was there. he is a city fireman and was in the building when it collapsed, etc. he still hs nightmares about it. he was def a changed man after that week.
we went in a few days later, me and my dad. it was eery. it literally smelled of bodies. i cant explain the stench. eveyrthing ws closed down, debris everywhere, the building still letting off a steam type thing.. it was strange, everyone we came in contact too, we were all as if we knew each other. everyone really came together as a commuity. on our drive back on the LIE someone was on an overpass with a big ole sheet that said somehting like "honk if you love america" or something like that. my dad was honking and they were so happy, they gave us the thumbs up and stuff. it was surreal

Re: with all the 9/11 posts it made me wonder.. any wtc survivors on here
My Uncle should have been there- he was NYPD- trained in speical services (before the first bombing- so he was there for the first)-
but that morning he had to take his Mother to the doctor at 9am
otherwise I can not say he would be here today- it was a very tense morning for my family until we found out he was ok
he lost more friends that day- then most people have
I didn't have school that day- so I watched it on TV- I will never forget 9/11/01
I lived in Queens- so I could smell that weird smell

I agree 100%. I worked on Hudson Street and saw plane #2 hit from the street outside my office. After that...I remember everything...and walking home over the Manhattan Bridge was probably the most surreal experience of my life! Hugs to anyone who lost someone special on that terrible day.

Re: with all the 9/11 posts it made me wonder.. any wtc survivors on here
I overslept and was running late...my dad called my cellphone frantically untill I woke up. I watched it from my terrace and from the Hudson River.
My friend "survived" but not really. She walked home from Wall Street to the 90's. When she got there she packed everything up and left NYC forever on Saturday (the first day traffic could get out). She is now back in Ohio and refuses to talk about what happened. She blocked it out and when people bring up 9/11 she freaks.

I was working downtown on 9/11 - Broad street.... I watched the whole thing from my office window - and had to walk down 40 flights of starirs - I feel lucky. We have since moved our office a few blocks away. (The building's by me were only minimally damaged).
I lost a friend in the attacks on the wtc - I will never forget her, or that day.

Re: with all the 9/11 posts it made me wonder.. any wtc survivors on here
My Dh is considered a survivor....I hadn't even met him yet.
He works downtown and someone from his office was sent to the WTC to deliver something, well when they heard about the first plane my DH was sent down there to find his co-worker not knowing how bad it would be.
He got about a block away from the buildings when he heard the second plane right over his head and saw it slam into the buildings. He frantically searched for his co-worker and was still in the vicinity when the first building fell. He ran for his life...down to Battery Park where he had no where else to run and just hovered behind a statue as the world turned black around him
After the dust settled he tried to make his way back to his office but it took hours to go a few blocks...he was actually considered dead for a few hours because he had no contact with anyone. His co-worker made it back, he was OK.
The next day he had to report to Ground Zero where he was stationed to clean up and recovery for the next month.
I met DH in January 2002 and in March '02 he took me to Ground Zero and explained his story. This time of year is so hard on him...he always feels like he escaped death.
When he first held his daughter he said "I am so grateful, I shouldn't even be here" and he is grateful, but that day and those images he saw will never escape him.
