No I'll just try to be a more efficient packer. I needed to do that anyway. Chat Icon
We're flying United. I actually have to find out what our policy is for the tickets we bought.

Doesn't affect my summer plans - we aren't flying.

We're going to Spain in the fall but whatever -- I'll pay what I have to.

You should be okay for United - right now only Delta and Airtran are charging for the second bag for anyone to purchased before May - otherwise if you bought your ticket by May something you are exempt.

I don't think charging for a second bag is an issue but charging for the 1st one (and being strict on carry on size bags) will become more problematic over time.

I don't think it will make a huge difference - but if the airlines start charging $30 - for the 1st bag ($15 each way) - a family of 3 will be paying $90 to just check one bag each for a week. I don't know too many families who can vacation or cruise for a week on just a small carryon bag. If you add that to the raising cost of airline tickets - I think more people will decide to drive.
