With prices so high , lets start a list of store brand items you have tried that are just as good as the name brands ones, and other not so big brands that are just as good as the name brands...
I will start:
Stop and Shop pasta sauce, pretty good tastes like ragu, if you like ragu sauce, store brand pasta, Stop and Shop Ice Cream, and Stop and Shop bottled water, paper goods from the Dollar tree... Apparently Waldbaums marks down there onion rolls after 5pm on certain days of the week I was told.
Add your finds....

My mom can only drink lactaid milk - stop & Shop has their own brand, waldbaums does not. Its about $.50 cheaper

I really like the S&S frozen pizzas. DH and I both especially love the burffalo chicken pizza. They're usually $4 when they're on sale. Also the S&S value brand oreo type cookies for $1 a package.

We should also add what we tried and was a waste. I got napkins at Big Lots (didn't feel like going back to Stop & shop, they were there) BIG FAIL!!! They had a strange smell.

Most S&S brand items are pretty good:
Frozen pizza
Frozen veggies
Iced Tea Mix
Fruit Punch Mix
Ice cream
Milk (lactose free)
Condiments - ketchup, mayo, salt, pepper, sugar, flour, etc.
Flour tortillas
Shredded cheese
Cream cheese
Butter

frozen veggies (especially Steamready, their version of Steamfresh)
ice cream
butter
cream cheese
shred cheese
flour and sugar
disinfectant wipes (they seemed thinner than Clorox wipes when I pulled one out of the can, but they're really well-saturated and honestly clean even better than Clorox wipes)
Love Target Up&Up stuff too-
paper towels
toilet paper
diapers
baby wipes
dish soap
all OTC meds
Target Market Pantry or Archer Farms-
ice cream
cookies
just tried their parmesan cheese and it tasted just like Kraft
canned fruit and canned veggies

I was just going to say the same. Target brands really are good- in fact most of the stuff I bought last time was Target brand. If I bought anything brand name it was because it was on sale.
ETA: Same goes for the Market Pantry/Archer Farms brands. I haven't bought anything I didn't like.

Trader Joe's Ketchup and brie Bites, awesome, and reasonablly priced.By the way, Jumbo Eggs at Iavoronne Brothers is 1.99 a dozen this week.

Also, Dollar Tree paper napkins are good, and I get my disposable aluminum pans in there and sometimes they have kleenex tissues.

Target frozen veggies (normal price 99 cents each!)
Target shaving gel (its the one compared to skintimate, under $2 and the same thing.) i always get it when skintimate isnt on sale anywhere and i need it.
Stop and Shop Seltzer
Stop and Shop salad dressings
most store brand breads are good too
store brand baby powder...just figured that one out, what a price difference! (hubby gets the fake stuff and my daughter gets the johnsons lol)

Most products I buy are either Stop & Shop or the Target brands.
I find a lot of my items like condiments and spices at the Dollar Tree.
Shopping with coupons and monitoring the sales circular is a good way to save on name brand items.

I am so bummed there's not a Trader Joe's near me, but I'd probably end up spending twice as much there each week if it was. 
This is why I have started to limit my trips to Target to only a couple times a month.
I find I do so much better at the grocery store, especially with coupons and sales.

Up & Up - Target.
Otherwise I just coupon and almost always get brand name items for less than generic.

I love Trader Joes BUT I really really do not like their low fat mayo. It has a strange consistency!
Their other sauces/condiments, etc. are very yummy

I have found that the Shoprite mayo is just as good as Hellmans. I also llike the storebrand breads, milks, english muffins and jellies.

Well, I have started doing most of my shopping at Aldi, they have like brands, so the bottles and packaging of their brands look almost exactly like the name brands.
Also, here in the UK Aldi have the cheapest veggies aroudn. And every week they do 5 veggies for pennies.
Give it a go...their system might be odd, but their food is top quality for super cheap!

I also like Target's Up & Up brand except OTC meds, feminine products, and pregnancy tests. I prefer Walmart for the pg tests and ALWAYS the otc stuff. It's such a great deal and they work awesome for us! I buy name brand pads and tampons. I just can't find a reasonable alternative. I also like Walgreens for OTC meds as well.
I also coupon for toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap, toothpaste, and deodarent. I have not found off brands I like for these things yet, or with sales and coupons I get such a great deal.
For Target don't forget to go onlinbe because they have a lot of U&U coupons you can print off.
I have tried most all store brands from Kroger, Meijer and Walmart. Meijer and Walmart are fine for food, but I don't care for Kroger's store brand. I have also tried store brand cream cheese and found it bad.
Most of the Sam's club store brand are very very very good and I buy that as well.
I also shop later at night at Kroger to get the discount. Like tonight I just got back and got 5 loaves of Rosemary Olive Oil bread normally $2.49 a loaf for $0.99 due to it reaching it's sell by date tomorrow. I froze it and will pull it out the morning I use it. I also got 4 London Broils normally $ 15.99 for $6.49 due to sell by date tomorrow. I do this for any store bought bread products and for meats.

Anything Trader Joes you cant beat their prices.
I've also never had an issue with most of the Up & Up products from Target and from Walmart I buy their brand for sugar and flour when I'm there and it's always good.
