What store brand items do you think taste/work as good as the brand-name versions?
DH brought home the Waldbaum's brand zero calorie soda -- the equivalent of Coke Zero.
I was hesitant about it because I think frequently the store brand soda tastes 'different'.
But it was like spot-on exactly the same taste.
And it's ALWAYS 79 cents. The cheapest I ever find coke zero is a dollar. I know its only .20 but we go through a lot of soda here.
What store-brand items do you swear by?

I love store brand laundry detergent, dishwasher soap, paper plates, aluminum foil etc.
I will not use store brand Ziplocs (or the equivalent of). I think the store brand is horrible!

We get store brand everything if it is cheaper with the exception of PB and Ketchup. We like our Skippy and Heinz Ketchup.

Canned beans, rice, pasta (I usually buy the ronzoni smart taste but if I want a specific shape, the store brand is fine)
I buy a ton of nature's promise, that is a store brand and all their stuff is good!
Adding in: Salt, Flour, Sugar

My sister is a nurse and she claims that all the store brand painkillers are exactly the same as big brands. She only buys store brands medicine.

America's Choice Ginger Ale. Just as good, if not better than Seagrams. And pretty much all meds I buy are store brand.

Oh boy, a lot of things! I love store brand. I think ketchup, cereal, medications. Sometimes I find that store brand items taste/work better than brand name.

I have to agree with this. For a long time I would only buy name brand but lately I am too cheap to pay the ridiculous prices. Today I bought Walgreen's answer to Claritin. Half the price and works great.

My prenatals are Walgreens brand. Doctor approved them and said they were as good as any prescription!

Re: What store brand items do you think taste/work as good as the brand-name versions?
Basically any store brand diaper for my kids. I really, honestly feel that you should only buy the cheapest thing that works for your kid to poop in! I never have name brand diapers unless there was some sort of incredible deal on them. Formula for my son. I use Babies R Us brand. All formulas have to meet the same standards in this country. I use fat free half and half in my coffee and only buy store brand. Store brand pasta, bread, cereal, eggs, tylenol, advil, motrin, basically any OTC medicine....the list goes on. For the most part, I only buy store brand stuff unless it's a huge difference to me.

Yeah, all meds are the same You can see the exact amounts of meds in them on the box.
That doesn't mean the manufacturer of the individual ingredients (Including the active ingredient) is the same. Yes, every ingredient has to meet either USP (US Pharmacopeia) or FCC (Food Chemical Codex) standards, but certain nutrition/OTC/Pharma companies have their own specifications that are more stringent/detailed than the governments standard, including country of origin (ie China), particle size, lead content, melamine content, retest period (shelf life) requirements, etc.
Those things don't necessarily change the effectiveness of the product, although the retest period/shelf life issue might.

I buy all store brand meds.
Same here.
In fact, any recalls on medicine have always involved the name brand medicines I've had.
