Women Who Wear Suits Everyday (not really fashion!)

For those women who have to wear suits every day to work, about how many suits do you have in your rotation?

Rumor has it that my office is going from business casual to business, and I am really worried that I do not have enough suits. I wear suits on average about 4 times a month, but I am not sure how many I realistically need if I am going to wear them every day.

Honestly, if you have to wear the 5 days a week, you can get away with just 5 or 6 suits for a while. You can wear them more than once before dry cleaning and wear them with different tops and scarves. It's amazing how different a suit can look with just a different color top and different jewelry.

I'd also get suit separates if you can -- b/c then you can get 2 or 3 different bottoms to go with one jacket. You can usually at least get pants and a straight skirt. Sometimes they have a long skirt, too. With several different tops, you have have more than a week's worth of looks with just 1 jacket.

If you need to buy more suits, look in Dress Barn. They have many of the same brands as the major department stores like Macys, but for less. Plus, at least a few times a year, they have major suit sales. I've gotten TONS of really nice suits there for $100.

I have to wear a suit 4 days a week. I have 2 business suits (for when clients are in), 2 casual suits (from NY Company, GAP) and 2 blazers & matching pants. I also get away with wearing some business dresses.

I don't mind it too much, but I hate IRONING!!!

The cheapest suits around are from metro style.com. Its great. Suits are around $60.

When I used to wear suits everyday, I had about 5 or 6. And I agree with the PP about seperates. They are great and less expensive than suits too.

I have to wear a suit M-Th and I have 10 or so and then lots of seperates which work so well.
I aklso do nott dry clean the suits every time I wear them as is it wears down the material

Thanks for everyone's responses. I do have one basic black suit combo from Banana Republic (jacket, pants and skirt), but I RARELY wear skirts. I pretty much wear pant suits 99% of the time.

My other problem it that most of my suits are Theory or Tahari. I really prefer them and they fit me best. But they are about $600 a suit, however, I NEVER pay full price for them - I get a great deal on them at Annie Sez, Loehmann's or the outlets. But, I have to wait to find them on sale.

I am not looking forward to this!

I should add that Macys usually has a lot of suit separates. I've never seen them in Dress barn, though.

(And don't laugh about Dress barn. Their suits are actually nice.)

I try very hard not to be a fashion snob so I will check it out!

I think (several years later) I'm just STILL shocked that they really do have nice suits that I must repeat myself... and they DO carry Tahari at much more reasonable prices.

Ironically, their dress selection is usually lacking.

Don't forget, you can wear a black dress or navy dress under a jacket. That would add to your rotation.

I summered at a place that required us to wear suits every day. I think I had around 6 or 7 suits and that got me through the whole summer. I just mixed it up with different shirts.

There were too many in the rotation to admit but I'm finding post partum since my weight has changed that I can get by with very few especially if I mix and match some. So I'd probably agree with the above posters. Just 5 or so should do it. Initially anyway A girl's gotta have a reason to shop right?

I get seperates from Ann Taylor and Banana Republic and throw in some fun jewelry.

I use to wear suits everyday when I worked full time - I probably had 8-10 suits. Then a few nice blazers - I'd wear with blacks dress skirts or slacks. Tons of different sweaters, shells, tanks to wear under them and change it up.

I bought most in Macys - most were Alfani, Jones, or Tahari - since that is what fit me best. The Macy's tahari - I bought only on sale - always under $200 for the suit. I hate wearing suits so $200 was my limit.

I loved wearing suits everday. Once you have enough in your rotation you will love that it is an easy outfit.

Definately invest in a few black and grey ones...with different shirts/tanks underneath, you can wear the same one during the same week and no one would know

I have two suits, one dress, one jacket and 3 pairs of black pants that I rotate.

I am slowly adding to the wardrobe.

I think I will check out dress barn for another suit or two. I picked up a Tahari suit at Nordstroms for $133!
