wood floor and kitchen
how many of you have this and have had if for many years.
i am really trying to figure out if it's an issue with moisture..ie if a refrigerator leaks.
anyone have experience with having a wood floor in the kitchen long term?
TIA

we've had it for 2 years now and no issues. I am so happy we did this instead of tile and grout!

Re: wood floor and kitchen
The kitchen floor in our new house is engineered wood, it's about 5 years old and looks good. We did just have it re-finished because we were doing the oak floors in the rest of the house.

Re: wood floor and kitchen
My parents have had a beautiful wood floor in their kitchen for at least 15 years. They haven't had any issues with moisture.
I believe they did re-stain it after about 10 years, but only to change the color (That was because they were already doing the rest of the floors in the house (which were 25+ years out on refinishing.)

Re: wood floor and kitchen
we had wood floor in our kitchen - which was nice because of flow but it was a softer wood - so it dented if something heavy was dropped - so make sure to get a harder wood
engineered wood - is real wood on top and usually allows 5 sandings but it plywood/composite pressed wood on the bottom

Re: wood floor and kitchen
We just replaced ours with tile bc of a leak that messed up the wood.
We could have fixed the wood but I always preferred tile so we just did the tile.

Re: wood floor and kitchen
We have had wood floors for 5 years now in the kitchen (we actually need to get re-stained) but it works, personally I prefer tiles but I'm sure after a good stain and a darker color I like it much better! But no problems with water at all

Re: wood floor and kitchen
we just put hardwoods in our kitchen, we redid the whole house-- and I prefer it so much more than the tile that was here.
In our apt, we had hardwoods throughout, and our AC leaked-- and we had the patch the floor where the wood was damaged. You couldn't even tell that it was repaired and when we sold, the inspection didn't pick anything up (we had reparied everything, so there were no issues with the HVAC or floor).
IMO, you can end up having water damage anywhere-- if you love wood, go for it. A good floor guy will know how to fix it if there is a problem

Re: wood floor and kitchen
My parents put wood floors in when they redid their kitchen 8 years ago and have never had a problem with it.
When we do ours, we will switch to wood as well, since the kitchen is small and the floors all around it are wood, we think it will look much better to have the continuity.
