Working - f/t, p/t or SAHM?
has anyone gone back to work full-time after maternity leave and after a month or two down the line you either left the job to become a SAHM or go part-time?
how did you do it financially too?

Re: Working - f/t, p/t or SAHM?
I went back to work for a bit (in total about 10 months) and then I gave my notice to be a SAHM. I stayed on for a bit after giving notice until I had really no other child care option. When it came close to my last day, my company offered me a position as a consultant and basically left it flexible. So now (while I have a bit of child care) I work one day a week in the city and am a SAHM the rest of the days.
I never thought I would be a SAHM since my career was so important to me and I worked hard to get where I was but the transition is going ok. I am lucky - - financially we are in a good position and I had the opportunity to do so.

Re: Working - f/t, p/t or SAHM?
I went back full time and have been back at work for 4.5 months. I am also in the transition of potentially becoming a SAHM. Financially I have no idea how to do it but if we have a second kids - I'll have to do it. DH and I were talking about this today. We are planning on cutting out cable (again), taking on a cheaper cell phone plan and going on payment plans with utilities so we know what to expect month to month. As for what else to do - I have no idea what to do. It's going to be impossible if you ask me.

Re: Working - f/t, p/t or SAHM?
I returned to work FT last week at a reduced work day of 10am - 4pm instead of 9am - 5pm. I'm casually looking for something part-time or closer to home. DH and I agreed we'd talk about me being a SAHM come the new year

Re: Working - f/t, p/t or SAHM?
I am also a working SAHM. I run DH's and brothers businesses from home at night while the kids are sleeping. DH doesn't pay me to do it but Brother does. It's not much money at all but it picks up the grocery tab 1-2x a month.
ETA: Financially is kinda hard for us. DH is a self employeed carpenter. There are months where the money flows in like water and there are months where he doesn't do anything waiting for jobs to start. It's kinda hard to budget but somehow we manage.

Re: Working - f/t, p/t or SAHM?
I am completely stressed out about finances. I am currently on maternity leave & scheduled to return to work on Jan. 30th (DD will be 6 months). I do not want to go back- I'd like to take this school year off & return in September. I'm looking into teaching a college course at night & some other options, but DH gets home from work late & we don't really have child care for DD until he gets home. I'm not sure what we'll do but I'm really really trying to stay home for the year.
One way we'll cut expenses- when our 2 car leases are up, DH will take his dad's used car & I will get a cheaper lease. We spend way too much money on car payments.

Re: Working - f/t, p/t or SAHM?
I'm a working sAHM as well. I am paid cash and it helps a lot. I was making a very nice salary before getting PG and even made more the DH at the time, so it is a huge adjustment to be paid a lot less. I don't think we could have done it if I wasn't bringing in some $$.

Re: Working - f/t, p/t or SAHM?
Only went back work 12 hours a week. Saved up and did most of our big house renovations before baby arrived. Now I watch what I spend and it's working just fine.
