Working - Overtime Question
Does everyone who works more than 40 hours a week do those extra hours automatically become overtime (time 1/2)?? Or is there some special thing you must have?

Re: Working - Overtime Question
If your position is classified as non-exempt, then yes hours worked over 40 hours would be time and a half.

Re: Working - Overtime Question
Your job description has to be classified as eligible for OT. Then it falls on company policy -- some places require authorization from your supervisor.

Re: Working - Overtime Question
Ok, maybe I should be more specific. My DH (construction) has a guy that may work more than 40 hours a week... is he eligible for time 1/2?
ALSO, my DH isn't strict. The guy could work 24 hours a day if he wanted. Is there a limitation on the amount of overtime??

I think so, in that type of job , they would be eligible for time and 1/2 over 40 hours

Re: Working - Overtime Question
Yes - as long as you are paid hourly and not salary you get time and a half

Re: Working - Overtime Question
Is there a limit to the amount of overtime you are able to get? If this guy works like 68 hours a week (just because the job is open and he wants to, not cause my DH makes him work) he is able to collect 28 hours of overtime? Do weekends count?

Re: Working - Overtime Question
I don't think there's a limit, but I don't think employees should be able to work as much as they want to get extra money like that. I think anything excessive like that should be approved or requested by the manager/owner.

Re: Working - Overtime Question
The way I bill our non exempt employees is like this - If you work over 40 hours a week, anything over that 40 hours is time and a 1/2. While we don't have a maximum, I do try to tell the manager's to keep it under control. At time and a 1/2 - the $$ adds up quickly - and the client usually wants an explanation as to why OT is so high.
