When they are little or non mobile, yes you can def work from home with no problem.
It gets a bit trickier when they start moving around and get a bit more curious and mischevious.
I turned down a WFH job when DD was 10 months old and I was 4-5 months pg, It was AN AWESOME opportunity, but my day i spend 75% of it chasing after DD and I would not be able to get a thing done, and catching up on weekends/nights running into family time was not an option for me.

Re: working form home with little one
I have a job that requires me to work from home most the time and be in the field the rest. In the beginning working at home is totally doable if you have a child that eats and sleeps well. A friend of mine in my department has a DS who was colic and there was no way she could have done it.
My mom watches Ryan so I don't have to worry about it, but there are days when I keep him home (if she can't that day, if she is sick, if he is sick...). DH gets home by 2:30 so I can always work later and into the night. If your DH's job is really flexible and he can work after you get home then I think that it would definitely work out.

Just be sure when you're on the phone for business, you're not holding the baby & having it screaming/crying into the phone as you're attempting to speak with someone. This happened to me the other day - I returned a call to a lab tech to arrange for her to draw blood from my DH (he just had hip replacement surgery last week) and I could not hear her & she me - it was frustrating.

Re: working form home with little one
I work from home and could have done it fairly easily till the baby was about 6-7 months old with the exception of crying fits while I was required to be on conference calls. A little tricky when I had to speak and the baby was crying.
Once the baby gets mobile it is near impossible. And now that my son is 2 it would never work.
So I guess it depends on what type of work he does.

I totally agree that in the beginning it's not too bad. But when they get mobile - that's when you need another plan.
