Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
I did it. Not fun.
All at the same time I:
* was a 2nd grade teacher during the day (and took a lot of work home with me)
* was taking my Master's classes at night
* was writing my thesis
* was planning my wedding
* was purchasing my first house
Fun times.
You can do it!

I worked full time and went to school for 6 years.
1 of those years I also had to do 40 hours of clinicals a week........
Let just say my lst year I didn't sleep much!!
I found that I ALWAYS work better and study better when I a m reallly busy! Totally do-able

Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
I'm doing it now...I work FT and go to grad school at night part time...I usually take one class online and one on campus, that end around 8:00...the nights I have to go to campus its hard b/c I'm exhausted... Currently I'm taking the semester off b/c i just had a baby...I'm thinking it might be more difficult with the baby now, but I have to do it.

Both DH and I did it, I was getting my MBA and he was going to law school. I will say that if we both weren't in school, I relationship would have been really strained. When you make the decision to go to school and work it will impact your relationship. There will be less quality time with your SO bc you'll be in class, studying, trying to keep up with chores and plain 'ol tired. Your SO needs to be prepared for how it will change his quality of life so he's not blind sighted.
It can be done, but it will take sacrifices from both of you. Keep the lines of communication open and make sure you schedule time to just be a couple.
Good Luck!
ditto by your posts, I'm sure your DH will support you 100% but still sit him down and communicate how life will be different for two years.
I met Anthony while i was going to school(undergrad) full time and working full time to pay my partial tuition. I didn't get to see him many nights or nights that i did it would not be till after 10. I guess the reason why it worked from so early on in our relationship was because Anthony works insane hours so he was always working anyway.
Now, my DH is going into the nursing program which will be intense till may 2011. This was a perfect opportunity for me to go back and get my MBA especially since my employer is now going to pay for most of it

jess also make sure it is caahep accredited. If the program is not, you will not be able to sit for the license test.
sanford brown in expensive and not accredited. biggest rip off.

It's a difficult adjustment at first but definitely doable and worth it in the end. Just don't take on too many other things so you don't overload yourself. You can do it!

Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
It's not easy, but doable. I worked full time, went to school full time and had a few side jobs along the way. Took me 4.5 years to get my degree. wouldnt' of changed it.

Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
I worked full and part time and went to school part time when I was pregnant. Now I work full time, go to school part time and take care of my active toddler on the other nights.
DH also did it. He worked full time, commuted to NYU for his MBA and even took some weekend classes.
I have this semester and one class next semester and I will be done with my MLS.
It is really hard and I agree that you need to make sure you have the emotional support from DH and friends and family. Neither mine nor my DH's education would have been possible without the support from one another and the amazing help from my parents. They care for DD for me if DH will be home late. When DH was in school, I ate dinner with them and spent time with them.
If you have a good support system, it is possible!!

Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
I go to grad school p/t and work plus two kids and reserve duty...its hard but I do it. I pull some allnighters once in a blue moon, I give up tv and a lot of hobbies, like scrapbooking. I don't give up much time with my kiddos I just do the work after they go to sleep (well my DD, my son is only 7 weeks old so he's 'up with me, haha.) You can do it, it'll be hard, but if you want it you can.

Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
I did it for my bachelors and my masters. for my bachelors, it was a matter of working monday, wednesday, friday and saturday for 10 hours days and going to school tues. and thurs. for 10 hours. I was single and got it done. For my masters, I worked until 3/4 and then went to school until 10-ish. I also made sure to take credits during the winter break and summer so that I could be done faster. So I finished my masters of 39 credits in 15 months. DH and I were dating at the time. The thing is this: now, I'm done. I'm done. It's all in the past, I love what I do and it was only for a small part of my life. The biggest thing was having a job that wasn't coming home with me and also having a person in my life who encouraged me and supported me and helped me. I couldn't have done it if DH was not supportive or helpful. You can do it!!!

I'm so impressed with everyone and hearing what you went through is very encouraging.

That's what i'm thinking. It'll be hard for two years, but then i'll be done and starting a CAREER that i actually like.
DH is very supportive, he's the one talking about it all the time and motivating me to go for it (he wants to go back to get his masters as well). I know he's on board so I don't have that to worry about. Thanks!!
The open house is tonight so i'll be getting all the info.

I worked full-time and went to school for many years...but your program sounds hard...is there anything else you can do? 4 nights a week until 10pm is a long, long day, and no breaks...that's tough.

I don't know, i'm trying to find schools around the area that have the program I want but it seems there aren't many (I need to start from scratch basically since the college degree I have now has nothing to do with what I want to go back to school for).
I'm going tonight to an open house to get more information so we'll see.

I did it. Worked full-time and did my Masters but I did it part-time. For me it wasn't bad at all. But I agree that schedule seems really tough I would look to see if you can find an easier program or perhaps work less than full-time

Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
I am doing it now and although it is tough, as long as you have the support from your family it is worth it. I work 8-5 go to school and come home to cook, eat and go to sleep. All I think is how this other degree will benefit myself and my future children in long run and it makes the load a lot easier. I must say that I loved having yesterday, today and tommorrow off from school!

I'm going to see what else they offer tonight and also ask if they think it'll be too hard for someone who works full time. I really want to stay working full time and not reduce my income since we recently bought a house and both want to go back to school.
I'll update after tonight's open house.

Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
I did it throughout my entire college. In my senior year, I was coming into work on days at 6am & leaving at 12, then heading to class from 1-8...It was rough but I don't regret it one bit....
I did have one class that was 2 times a week from 6-10 & that was brutal but when you know that the end result is what you want, you just do it!

Re: Working full time and going to school... how hard is it?
Hi. I work full time and take classes at night and online (part time).
At first it was a little tiring going to school after work, but I've gotten used to it and enjoy it. The online classes are great.
The program you are interested in sounds tiring...but it will go so fast. You can do your homework during your lunch breaks.
