Working in an Emergency Room?
Does anyone work in an Emergency Room? I'm asking because I want to apply to Admin Assistant type work but it's in an Emergecny room. I was just worried about the germs, atmosphere. Thanks!

Re: Working in an Emergency Room?
I wouldn't worry about the germs so much as the stressful work environment. ER's can get very crazy. What hospital is it, and what would the job entail?

Yeah, the are certainly chaotic!! But if you like to be busy and an interesting/changing work environment it would be good for you! I wouldn't worry about germs too much as an admin. assistant, just use lots of alcohol- based handwash!!

i answered on the other thread, but i would definitely say that if you have an aversion to germs, the ER wouldnt be a good place for you- eventhough its an admin position, its not like youre oin a separate office or anything, you're right in the middle of it all.

Re: Working in an Emergency Room?
My sister was an ER nurse for years. it's very chaotic and you will see a LOT of disturbing things, but I'm sure it can also be rewarding since your job is part of something that helps many people.
My sister got sick a lot in the ER, but not from the germs, from the STRESS

I work in a hospital, usually not in the ER though, and I have never been sick since working there. Universal precautions are carried out all the time - just use a lot of Purell!

Re: Working in an Emergency Room?
I work in a busy ER and I agree with the others, the stress will get to you worse than the germs. Just wash your hands frequently while you are there. Our registration clerks are the ones that put an armband on the patient. As a courtesy, if the patient is isolation or dirty, or coughing openly, the nurses will take the bracelet from them and put it on the patietn so the clerks is not exposed to these sick people. If you have any questions, feel free to FM me!
